"I was born in Page, North Dakota. In my younger years
I lived in Missouri, and various farms in Iowa. I graduated form
St. Mary's High School, Iowa City, in May of 1945."
"I left for the service in the Army Air Force
in August 1945, and went overseas to Germany in January of 1946.
I left Germany in December of 1946 and returned home for New Year's
in 1947."
"I attended Spartan School of Aeronautics in
Miami, Oklahoma and graduated in April of 1948 with a commercial
pilot's license and flight instructor rating."
"On June 24, 1950 I married Pauline Dohrer, a
school teacher, at St. Mary's Church in Iowa City. After working
several jobs I started farming in 1954 at Columbus Junction with
my brother Ed."
"In 1955, we bought our first farm north of West
Branch. We lived there until 1973 when I sold it and bought Pauline's
home farm east of Iowa City where we now live."
