"I was born in a house near West Liberty. At 7 years of age
my folks moved to Nebraska where we lived for 7 years. We then moved
to a farm near Blabon, North Dakota for 2 years. I attended 2 years
of high school."
"We then moved to a farm near Page, North Dakota
where I attended 1 year more of high school. By this time I was
old enough to work for the neighbors and help support the family.
After 2 years we moved again, this time to Brinktown, MO."
"Mary (Sister Margaretta) and I went back to
Iowa to get jobs to help support the family. I worked for several
farmers until 1933. Then I got a job at the Blackhawk Foundry for
45 cents an hour. I quit working there when Dad had an accident
moving from Atalissa to Hills. I moved home to help with the farming."
"While there I met Mary Frantz. We were married
Oct. 14, 1937. I started farming for myself in 1942 with the help
of Dr. Scanlon. I bought my first farm near Swisher, and traded
for a farm at Conesville in 1952. I farmed until I retired in 1976.
We now spend our summers in Minnesota and our winters in Florida
