WEDNESDAY, JULY 1, 1964- Got up in fairly good time. Wrote checks for Eicher's & Light & Power & got them mailed. Did my washing, dried a batch inside, hung the rest outside. Joann & Barbie, Larry & Jim came out for a while this p.m. Then Gene & I went to get groceries. Thought there wouldn't be to big a crowd but there was. Anyway glad to have it done. Wrote to Sister M. this eve.
THURSDAY, JULY 2, 1964- Another hot day. I got up in good time because I wanted to write Bro. John's letter & get other mail ready, so I did & then did my hand ironing before noon. Got a fairly good dinner and in the afternoon did the ironing on the ironer. Betty came over & we went up to Paul's to see their new rug. Home alone all evening.
FRIDAY, JULY 3, 1964- First Friday. Rode down to Mass with Gene and home with Louise. We went down to Lubin's & she bought me some Analgesic Cream to rub on my knees. I worked around here at some sewing etc. Finished Pat's black skirt, got checks ready to send to the bank & Gene took them down. Alone in the eve as usual.
SATURDAY, JULY 4, 1964- Got my washing done & hung out before I got my breakfast as I knew Lillian wanted to use the clothes line. Then I got a good breakfast & rested a while & then got at my Saturday's work & getting ready for company. Wilma's family came (6), Pat's family (6), Paul's family (8), Gene's family (3). So that made a nice crowd. They cooked hamburgers on the grill. Had a big supper, played cards in the eve. A very nice time.
SUNDAY, JULY 5, 1964- Went to Mass with Gene and home with him for breakfast. Then he brought me home around 9:30 so I could be here if the shingle man came ( which he didn't so far ). I rested some & watched TV some. Libb & Lyle & family came in the p.m. for a nice little visit before they go on their trip tomorrow. I spent the eve alone as usual. Made Holy Hour.
MONDAY, JULY 6, 1964- Got up in fairly good time & got checks written out to pay bills. Catherine mailed them for me. I started picking my beans. Catherine & Lillian helped me finish them. I cooked a big mess & then gave the rest of them to Joann. She came out around the noon hour & had got the swimmers & was taking them home. I froze 2 pt. of beans that Libb gave me. I rested some this p.m. In the eve Louise came over for a little visit.
TUESDAY. JULY 7, 1964- Got up in fairly good time again today. Then we got a pretty good rain. Quite a bit of lightening & thunder. Shingle man came out & we talked about shingling the old house. Sounds like it's going to come pretty high. I used my pressure canners & did 19 pt. of beans for Betty. In the eve I went with Louise to our Card Party. First prize. Mrs. Ockenfells got second prize.
WEDNESDAY, JULY 8, 1964- Got up in fairly good time & wrote a letter to Mary, then I got a pretty good breakfast and then did my washing. It rained some so I dried them all inside. Marilyn had trouble with her machine so she brought over 2 batches & washed them here. I got Bro. John's letter, so I wrote to Sister M. & Bro. John tonight. Ed & Mary & 3 children here, so I am up quite late as usual.
THURSDAY, JULY 9, 1964- Got up in pretty good time and got a little to eat and started to pack up things to go to Pat's. She came after me & helped finish my work. Then we stopped downtown & she shopped a little. Then we went to Ben's & got Kenny & Benny to take them out to their place to work today. I helped around with the work & Pat got in some beets, so we got 12 qt. canned. I rested in the p.m. Then we got ready for company for supper. Helen & Herman Heigtes ?? They brought Kathy & Mary Lou home, they had been there visiting. Good supper, barbecued chicken. Made my Holy Hour.
FRIDAY, JULY 10, 1964- Got up in fairly good time and we had a good pancake breakfast. I got to work cleaning beans. Pat started making my night gown. Then she did her washing. I packed most of the beans in the jars & got them ready to go on. 10 qt. of them. Pat about finished my gown & then did my ironing that I took along out there. I did a little sewing for her after I rested. Then she brought me home. It was quite warm. I watered the petunias in the window boxes. Then got ready to go to Paul's for the fish fry.
SATURDAY, JULY 11, 1964- Didn't get up very early. Was so tired but finally got going. I wrote to Myrtle & Veatress & Harold. Then did some cleaning & watered plants & did a little hand washing. In the p.m. Gene took me down to Confession & mailed my letters for me & also got my groceries. It's rained most all day and pretty damp out. Louise called & we talked quite a while.
SUNDAY, JULY 12, 1964- Went to 7:30 Mass with Gene and then home with him for breakfast and then he brought me home. I did some reading and some resting. Paul & Lillian came for a while to borrow our new catalogue. Then Louise & Carl came & got me. We went out to the new house first so Carl could show it. Then down to get hamburgers, french fries & Coke. Then he also got candy bars at grocery store. Then we went to Muscatine. Myrtle wasn't home, so I went to Rose's. We had ice milk & coffee. Carl & Louise went to nursing home. Carl's mother some better.
MONDAY, JULY 13, 1964- Got up in pretty good time. Got partly ready to go to town with Louise. Then she came & got me shortly after 9:00 a.m. & we went down & bought 2 house dresses for $5.00 I like pretty well. Louise got me a dress for my Birthday. She went up to the Dr.'s office for pills for me. Got home after 12:00 as Louise had extra shopping to do. I worked on my dress sewing buttons on & working over button holes. Done some weeding in the flower bed.
TUESDAY, JULY 14, 1964- Got up in fairly good time and got my breakfast and got my washing done. Mrs. Watts carried most of them to the line. Also got them out in pretty good time & then I started working on my night gown & got my dinner. In the p.m. Wilma & Ann came out & also Betty & Philip came over for a while. Then I worked more on my gown. Then supper & sat out on the patio & read prayers. Then I came in & finished my night gown.
WEDNESDAY, JULY 15, 1964- Got up in good time and got partly ready to go to Jackson's at 10:30 to help him figure out and estimate about the worth of our property etc. So later on it will be appraised. This p.m. I worked on my checks & made out check for telephone. This eve Moe & Joan, Marty & Jan came, also Libb & Lyle and family came and they all worked on getting the weeds out of my flowers. Then we had ice cream & cookies. Betty & Philip also came over. Paul, Lillian, Phyllis, Linda & John came in their 1960 Olds that he got.
THURSDAY, JULY 16, 1964- Got up in good time as I had to write to Sister M., which I did before I had my breakfast. Wilma called & asked me to go along to Dav. So I had my ironing to do & got along real good. So I went along & got Carol's gift for her Feast Day & some cards. It was a nice trip. Got home & had a good supper. Quiet eve, talked a little with Mrs. Watts & Pat called on the phone.
FRIDAY, JULY 17, 1964- Got up in good time as I wanted to wash today, had 2 batches as I did up the bed pad & bedding. I sewed some on one of my new dresses. Got a Birthday gift from Bessie, also from Velva & cards from Them & Margaret Richey. Bothered quite a little with cold today. In the eve Lillian asked me to ride with them down to Libb's. So the came & got me & Lillian & Catherine made my bed for me.
SATURDAY, JULY 18, 1964- Got up fairly early, feeling sort of miserable with my cold. I worked all forenoon getting house cleaned up. In the p.m. I dusted & watered plants & rested quite a bit. Got a letter from Marge Brugman, birthday cards & letter from Rose & Hattie. Real hot again today. Louise got my groceries for me. Gene & Betty got their chickens out at Pat's.
SUNDAY, JULY 19, 1964- Went to 7:30 Mass with Gene & then home with him for breakfast. Nice time. Then later I went with Gene to get Myrtle at the bus depot and she was already there. So we had a nice time the rest of the day visiting & eating. Then we went with Carl & Louise to Libb's for my birthday celebration. We had a very nice time. 75 there, 73 of us with Myrtle & 2 extra. Nick brought a movie. we rode home with Leonard's.
MONDAY, JULY 20, 1964- My 73rd Birthday. Got up in good time and had a big breakfast. Then we went up to see Paul's house, Lillian came after us. It sprinkled a little. Unpacked gifts & then we had our dinner. More rest & TV until late in the afternoon. Then we slept a while & then time to get something to eat again. Was disappointed tonight, no one came up or out for my Birthday but Pat & Glenn & family. We had ice cream & cake & cookies.
TUESDAY, JULY 21, 1964- Myrtle & I got up in good time, had a light breakfast. Then Louise came & offered to take us for a ride as she had some errands to do. Then we got a pretty good dinner. Louise came over & painted the picnic table. Lillian took Myrtle to the bus depot. Joann came out some beans Betty had for her & visited a while. I wrote to Ed's & after supper to Sister M. & watered plants.
WEDNESDAY, JULY 22, 1964- Got up in fairly good time & got partly ready to go with Louise down to Lawyer Jackson's again to sign the Estate Papers. then we shopped a little. Then she drove out to where Carl & Charles were working on a new house and then over to the big house for her to turn on the air conditioner. In the p.m. Louise came over and painted the top of the bench boards of our picnic table. Anna Marie over for a little while. I patched my green house dress, wrote to Bro. John this eve. Mrs. Watts over with the address of her father & we talked about looking after their things while they are gone.
THURSDAY, JULY 23, 1964- Went to Mass this morning, rode back with Lillian as John is serving these 3 days. After breakfast I did my washing and got them out before noon. After noon I rested some & mended some & folded clothes. Debbie & Doug over for eggs. In the eve I fixed a pillow to put inside a sofa pillow Libb gave me. Made Holy Hour.
FRIDAY, JULY 24, 1964- I rode down to Mass with Gene & home with Lillian. After breakfast I wrote to Bessie & Velva & mailed them. Then ironed. Pauline & Children came before noon & brought my Birthday gift of a picture of President Kennedy. After noon I rested & ironed some more & finally got done. In the eve Sister Margaretta called & said she is going to Richmond next year. I called Wilma, Libb, Louise, Betty & Lillian to tell them the good news. We are all happy.
SATURDAY, JULY 25, 1964- Went to Mass this morning with Ronnie, Lillian & Catherine & Johnie. After breakfast I wrote thank you notes & Gene mailed them for me when he went downtown to get my groceries & pills. Betty came over & put up my hair. Then I worked all day getting my Saturday work done. Rested a little after dinner. In the eve I watered plants & flowers, also gene helped me to water Mrs. watts flowers.
SUNDAY, JULY 26, 1964- Went to 7:30 Mass with Gene & then rode home with Pat & Glenn & family & then they had their breakfast here. Then Libb & Lyle & family came & we all got ready & went to Praire Du Chien Wis. to see Sister Margaretta & Carol. They were waiting for us out in the yard & we had our picnic on the tables out there. Then later we went inside & looked at furniture Sister did last year, then into the storeroom. Then they made the telephone call to LaCrosse to get our room at a motel & had good luck. I rode up with Lyle's & home with Glenn's Got home at 8:00 p.m.
MONDAY, JULY 27, 1964- Didn't get up very early, was pretty tired. After breakfast I got a card ready & mailed it to Rose. Then I was starting to get thank you notes ready when Louise came & brought me a muskmelon & brought her clippers & trimmed up our bushes & trees & carried out a lot of weeds. Catherine came over before noon to get a card we got in the mail. Then ( got a pretty big dinner & then Betty came over with Philip & we visited a while. Then I rested & then got my work done up. Betty brought me over a mess of apple sauce. After supper she brought me some sweet corn form Pat's.
TUESDAY, JULY 28, 1964- Got up in fairly good time & Wilma & Ann were out here before I had breakfast and they stayed until around 9:00 a.m. Then I wrote to Sister M. Then Marilyn & kiddies came for eggs & pickle recipe. Then she left the kiddies here while she went down to grocery store. Andy & Sherrie also were here. I did my washing but didn't get them out until after dinner. Ann came in a while both before noon and after. Gene came over & got stuff out of Watts' garden. I water my flowers and Eva's & then it rained.
WEDNESDAY, JULY 29, 1964- Got up in good time. Had my light breakfast & then got busy with my thank you notes and got them finished and mailed. Louise came over for eggs. In the p.m. Gene & Johnie pulled my onions & brought them in. Catherine & Linda came in the p.m. and Catherine wrote the names & gifts down in our anniversary book. In the eve Gene & Betty & Philip & I went to Gerald's for a farewell dinner for Kay. Paul's were there too. Lovely supper, nice time.
THURSDAY, JULY 30, 1964- Mass for Dad this morning. Gene took me and also Lillian & Catherine. After breakfast Msgr. came out to Paul's to see Catherine. Then he came down here & visited me for a while. He says I should try to kneel in Church. Marilyn left Debbie & Doug & Donna here while she took Diane to the Dr. to get vaccinated & ready for school. In the eve we went to Paul's for pot luck supper in honor of Catherine. Gene & Betty, Philip & myself, Bernice & Lois. After supper Dean & Anita & Duane & Leonard's family & Carl & Louise came.
FRIDAY, JULY 31, 1964- Got up in fairly good time. It rained good this morning. Gene got my groceries about noon when he went downtown. I did my ironing this forenoon. Paul & Linda & Catherine came down for a little while as I had another gift for Kay. Then they left for Dubuque to take Catherine to the convent between 12 & 1:00 p.m. Happy parents, happy day. Rested some this p.m. In the eve Dick & Reg & boys came . Nice visit. Got a call from Bro. John. He is coming home on Sunday for a short visit.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 1, 1964- Got up in good time, got my washing started & done early. Then washed 7 rugs to have things cleaned up before Bro. John came. Pat & Glenn left their children here & Connie while they went to Cedar Rapids to the wedding. We had hamburgers for dinner. In the p.m. Betty came over & did all the cleaning & washed & waxed the bathroom & kitchen floors. Pat & children stayed here after they came back from the wedding, so she helped a lot. In the eve Gene was mowing the lawn & Mary Lou was behind him & he didn't know it & got the middle toe of her foot cut off. Everyone so sad but she kept up the best of all.
SUNDAY, AUGUST 2, 1964- Went to 7:30 Mass with Gene. Leonard went to Marion to get Bro. John. around 7:00 a.m. Then he stayed there & went to 9:00 o'clock Mass with them. Then Bro. john came over to see me a little while & then back to their house for breakfast. Then he came home & went over to Gene's to see them & the Kasper children. Had a light lunch & then rested. Ben & Joann & Barbara came out for a while, also Louise came over, Lee & Roseann, Gert & Nick. For supper there were 19 of us and in the eve Lyle's came, Wilma, Clarence & Ann, Bessie, Margaret & Bob, Leonard's family, Maurice & Joan and altogether we had 30 more. That made 47 came today to see Bro. John.
MONDAY, AUGUST 3, 1964- Bro. John & I went to Mass. Then Bessie was here & got us a good breakfast. I washed 1 batch today. then we finished drying them in the dryer. Louise came over for a while. While she was here she hosed off the patio & benches for me. We had a pick up dinner. In the p.m. Bro. John rested. I also rested quite a bit. Bessie did a little ironing. Then Bro. John took her to Bud's. In the evening Libb & Lyle & children brought a good supper & ate with us. Paul's family came later & Gene & Betty & Philip came. Gene brought his screen & projector to show Bro. John's slides from Panama.
TUESDAY, AUGUST 4, 1964- Bro. John & I went to Mass. After breakfast he went down to visit Msgr. Meinburg. Then when he came back we got ready and went to visit Aunt Frances. George was there. Then we went to drive in bank & deposited money. Then we went to Bud's Rooming House and left Bessie's clothes, then out to Pat's for dinner. She had charcoal chicken & ate outside. Mary Lou getting along fine. Bro. John went back to go with Marilyn & the kiddies to the Circus. In the eve we had 24 for supper on the patio with Bro. John & myself and in the eve 27 more came. All the relatives and that made 49 that came. Gene showed Bro. John's Panama pictures. A real nice evening.
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 5, 1964- Bro. John & I went to Mass and then I washed 2 batches of clothes & hung them out. Bro. John went with Marilyn to Hills. She got pickles at Libb's & he visited at Wilma's & then he came home for dinner and then Glenn got him & took him to the fair. Betty & Marilyn fixed the supper and brought it over and we ate out on the patio again. Then we all went with Bro. John to the depot to catch his train which was an hour late. Then we came home & they did up the work & cleaned up the house.
THURSDAY, AUGUST 6, 1964- Didn't get to Mass today, but got up in fairly good time and wrote a letter to Mrs. Watts & one to Sister Margaretta & mailed them. Then rested quite a lot today. Marilyn here for eggs, also Louise, and Gene brought some corn over for me. Watered the trees and window boxes and the bowls. Ben came out for a little while and stored their bike in the shop. Holy Hour tonight.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 7, 1964- First Friday. Rode down to Mass with Gene & Louise brought me home. Linda came home with me & was here for dinner & supper. I washed a batch of clothes and did some hand washing. They dried real nice. Paul & Ronnie came & Gene and they got started tearing off the old roof on the porch.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 8, 1964- Got up in pretty good time and got to work. I got some beans ready & cooked for dinner & put 2 pt. in the freezer. Then I started my ironing, so off & on with phone calls, I finally got done & had to hurry to get ready to go with Pat's to Lee's for supper for Sharon's Birthday. We had a real nice time. Got home pretty late so I was late to bed as usual.
SUNDAY, AUGUST 9, 1964- Went to Mass with Gene & over to their house for breakfast. Then home & went down to Watts with mail & to water the plants. Rested a while & then Paul & Ronnie & Lillian came & got Louise's bed & took it home. In the p.m. Ben & Joan & the 4 youngest came out. Then Wilma & Clarence came & Wilma helped me To get started packing for our trip to LaCrosse. In the eve Gene got me & we went to Paul's for supper for John's Birthday.
MONDAY, AUGUST 10, 1964- Got up in fairly good time & got started at my work. Washed lots of my good hose up & did a small machine wash. Maurice & Joan hung out my wash & I got ready & went to the park with them for a nice picnic dinner. Came home in good time, then they left. I washed my white shawl and worked around. Pat & children came out & brought my pills and some hose for me. We had Kool-Aid & cookies. In the eve I watered flowers at Watts & here. Worked more at getting ready to go.
TUESDAY, AUGUST 11, 1964- Got up rather early. Took bath and got ready to go to beauty parlor. Lillian took me down & Louise brought me home. Finished my packing & got my dinner & got ready to go when the Dietsch's came. We had a good trip but it turned cold & rainy so we ate our supper in the car. We had a nice motel to stay in, radio, TV, telephone, carpet etc. In the eve after a little rest we played cards in the girls room.
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 12, 1964- I got up real early & started to get ready & packed some things back in suitcase. We went out to breakfast early & back to our rooms & finished getting ready & packed up. Louise & Carl found us & came up to our rooms and then we all went to the Cathedral. Libb & Lyle, Rita & Tony & Bill were already there. So we had a very happy time. Long service but I stood it fine. We have a new Sister now, Sister Mary Anton. Sister Hendrina came over to Convent & lots of friends came. We brought Sister Margaretta back to Hills with us.
THURSDAY, AUGUST 13, 1964- Didn't get up very early and I am very tired today. Had quite a few phone calls. Betty brought me a piece of pie. Mrs. watts brought me a gift. Roseann & Marilyn & baby stopped in to see me for a while, a very sweet baby. In the eve Paul & Lillian, Ronnie & John & Linda came over for a little visit. We played cards.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 14, 1964- Got up in pretty good time and had expected the roofer man to come out & measure up for the shingles on Watts house, but he didn't come. I did my small washing and got a pretty good dinner. Did up my work & rested some, awfully tired again today, I think it's a cold. Washed bowls, watered plants, talked to Sister Margaretta this evening and plan to go see her on Monday.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 15, 1964- Holy Day. I went with Betty to Mass & then home with her for a good Ham & eggs breakfast. Then Gene brought me home & I was home all day. Ben & Joann & Jimmy & Barbie came out for a little while. Then later in the afternoon Lillian came & brought a lug of peaches I had her get for me to take to the Sisters in Richmond when I go down there to spend the day Monday. Gene got my groceries & also bought me a new wrist band for my watch which I call a Birthday gift from the children. Quiet eve, no company.
SUNDAY, AUGUST 16, 1964- Went to 7:30 Mass with Gene, then home with him for breakfast and a nice visit. Then he brought me home and I spent the day reading, resting and read my prayers. Got a pretty good dinner. Wilma, Pat & Libb each called. Late in the p.m. Gene & Philip & Tuffy came for a little while. Then Mrs. Watts, Rod, Ann & Don & children & Betty all came for a little while on the patio. Then after supper Wilma, Clarence, Tony & Ann came with the pictures of Sister M. Anton. Then I called Paul's & Paul, Lillian, Phyllis, John & Linda came. We played 2 games of cards.
MONDAY, AUGUST 17, 1964- Got up in pretty good time. Got my breakfast & got ready to go spend the day with Sister. Gene & Betty & Philip took me & then they stayed a while & had a real good visit & Philip was so good. I took the Sisters a lug of peaches & they enjoyed getting them. After dinner & also after supper we made a visit to the Church. Then Paul's came for me & they visited for a while. Got home around 8:30 p.m.
TUESDAY, AUGUST 18, 1964- Today I also got up in fairly good time. Had my breakfast & got ready to go with Betty out to Pat's as she was going to help her this forenoon. So she washed the walls & woodwork in the kitchen & waxed cupboards. Then after dinner Betty & Pat worked on the floors trying to get the wax & Glaxo off so they can give it a new coat. Home in good time. Got a nice rain. Then all of Ben's came. Joann brought me a good supper & we ate it out on the patio.
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 19, 1964- Went to Mass with Lillian & Johnie this morning. Then I did my washing. Eva carried them out to the line for me. Then I gave her 4 pt. jars to use. Gene brought me over 2 ears of corn, 2 small jars jelly & some grapes. I rested some this p.m., put up my hair, took down the clothes & dampened them, mended tablecloth. Bob, Dave, Joe & Rita here while the folks went to Rosary. We played cards before & after they came back.
THURSDAY, AUGUST 20, 1964- Went to Mass with Lillian & Johnie again this morning. When I got home I wrote letter to Bro. John. Gene & Johnie were here & Johnie mailed it for me. The roofer man came out & measured the house & picked out the shingles. Then he was going to order them for me and maybe get out in a week or two. Got a load of gravel on our lane after dinner. Ben & Joann & 3 boys came out in their Rambler they just got & took me for a ride. Seems to be pretty good.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 21, 1964- Didn't get to Mass today, but got up in pretty good time & read my Mass Prayers. After breakfast I took care of some corn I had here & put it in the deep freeze. I also made some cupcakes, the first baking I did for quite a long time. After dinner I iced them. Debbie & Doug came over for eggs & visited a while. In the eve Pat & Glenn & family came for supper & we had a good fish fry for Kathy's belated Birthday Celebration. Betty & Philip were her for a while in eve.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 22, 1964- Went to mass with Paul & Lillian & Johnie this morning. Wrote a letter to Bessie. Gene stopped in & got my grocery list & check for taxes, so they are paid now. I washed a batch of clothes & cleaned the house the best I could but I got real tired. Then Gene took me to Confession in the p.m. Stopped in at Ries's store & bought a Sunday Missal for a gift. In the eve Leonard's family came over for a little visit.
SUNDAY, AUGUST 23, 1964- Went to 7:30 Mass with Gene & then home with him for breakfast. Then home around 9:30 or 10:00 a.m.. Spent the day quietly reading prayers, reading & watching TV. Then Paul's family & Gene's with their supper & I furnished a chicken too. We had chicken cooked on the grill, watched TV. and played cards.
MONDAY, AUGUST 24, 1964- Got up in good time and after breakfast & Mass Prayers I washed 4 kitchen rugs & 3 pr. of Dad's old overalls that had been hanging out in the closet. Debbie over for eggs, also Louise came for eggs. Pat brought out things she had bought for me. Also camera & Gene took 2 pictures of the house. Thunder storm tonight.
TUESDAY, AUGUST 25, 1964- Got up a little later, but got my breakfast & then got my Mass Prayers read. Got letter from Sister M. & Bro. John both today. After work Ben & Joann & Barbie came out and visited a while. Gene was over for a while and brought me a half of watermelon. Quiet eve & worked on Cindy's apron & I watched the Democratic Conventions.
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 26, 1964- Got up in good time & went to Mass with Lillian. It was for her parents. I wrote a letter to Sister Margaretta this morning and then spent quite a lot of time working on Cindy's apron. Then got my prayers said early so I could watch the convention on TV.
THURSDAY, AUGUST 27, 1964- Got up in pretty good time and got my breakfast & wrote letter to Bro. John. Then I got the washing started & then I read my Mass Prayers. Clothes dried pretty good. Gene sewed grass seed on my garden this eve. Watched the Convention on TV. again.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 28, 1964- Got up a little later than usual. Got my breakfast and worked around some. Mailed cards to Bob Milders and to Aunt Frances. Got my arthritis book in the mail, quite interesting. Rested some this p.m., also mended some. In the eve Wilma, Connie, Ann & Connie's friend came. Also Libb & Lyle. Pat & Glenn leaving for the State Fair tonight.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 29, 1964- Got up in good time and worked at my Saturday work. Ronnie came after dinner & put tar on the roof over at Watts. About the middle of the afternoon Ronnie brought the Kasper kids down & they were here for supper. Gene got my groceries and then later he came & got Gene & Jerry & took them over to their house to stay all night. In the eve Mrs. Watts & Rod was over & watched TV. and eat watermelon with us. Started taking Cod Liver Oil.
SUNDAY, AUGUST 30, 1964- Got up in good time & got ready for Church & then waked the girls, Kathy, Mary Lou, up. Kathy didn't feel good so stayed with Betty and Mary Lou & I went to 7:30 Mass with Gene. We then went home with Gene for breakfast and then he brought me home around 10:00 p.m. and then he took the Kasper Children to the park and then brought them here around noon & I had them for dinner. Around 3:00 p.m. Tom came after the Kaspers & they went there for supper. Glenn & Pat came for them in the eve. Gene & Betty went to Paul's in the eve.
MONDAY, AUGUST 31, 1964- Got up in fairly good time. Wrote letter to Sister Margaretta. Marilyn stopped in for a while and had a cup of coffee & then she mailed my letter. Wilma called & said Sister could only have company on the first Sunday of the month now. Pat called . I did my washing & hung them out after dinner. Gene & Johnie in for a little while this p.m. Gene & Betty stopped this eve. Gene got dope for my trees.
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 1, 1964- Rode to Mass this morning with Gene and then home with Marilyn. Quite a nice morning & seems so good to get out to Mass again. The appraisers of the properties came this morning & looked over the 3 houses. Wilma called & I got letters from Sister M., Bro. John, Bessie & cards for a baby shower. In the evening Louise came over & got me & we went to our Card Party. Had a nice time Rose Wombacker & Marie Mahoney were Hostesses.
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 1964- Rode to Mass with Gene & home with Marilyn & children. I had my ironing to do today. I did my standing ironing this forenoon & then baby sat with Philip a little while Betty took Gene his dinner. In the p.m. Mrs. Yoder came over with dirt for my plant. I finished my ironing in the p.m. Ben & Joe were out & did the blocks. Joann & Barbie came along. Wrote letter to Bro. John.
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 1964- Rode to Mass with Gene & home with Marilyn & little girls. I finished Cindy's apron so now it needs to be pressed & wrapped. Pretty hot today, over 90. Sister Margaretta called me on a double call, so now we know we can go to their place next Sunday for dinner. Quiet eve, no company. It rained a little and thundered & lightening again.
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 1964- Rode to Mass with Gene & home with Marilyn. I did a small washing & pressed Cindy's apron & wrapped it. Also wrapped gift for Mr. & Mrs. Robert Wieskamp. Then I put up my hair to get ready to go to Baby Shower at Vera's for Marilyn's baby. I went with Paul's & we really had a nice time. Pat won 2 prizes & Marcia 2, Lillian 1. Gene mailed my packages. Betty's tooth bothered her so she didn't go to the Shower.
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 1964- I didn't get to Mass today. But got up in good time and got my coffee & then started writing Cindy's letter. I wrote 4 pages & got it mailed in time. Also mailed 3 bills, Dr., Dairy, & Insurance. Then I did some sweeping & cleaning & then got some plant slips for Sister M. & also potted a plant for her. Got a late dinner. Then Al & Linda from Chicago stopped in and visited a while. I got some plant slips from ??? this p.m. & some from Mrs. Watts this a.m. Very tired but made my late Holy Hour.
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 1964- Altar & Rosary Sunday. Sort of rainy morning. Went to Mass with Gene & Betty & Philip and then home with them for breakfast. Then Gene brought me home & I got things ready to go to Sister Margaretta's to picnic. We sure had a nice time and the weather cleared up nicely. There were 37 there besides Sister M. Ed's 6, Libb's 6, Paul's 7, Wilma's 4, Gene's 3, Pat's 6, Dick's & myself. We got to use an extra room that had been used for a school room once. Sister Charity had put signs " Welcome to a grand family" "Glad to see you come" "Welcome to a happy family" " Enjoy your stay with Sister"
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 1964- At home today. Got up in good time. Got the news & my breakfast & read my Mass Prayers. Got a pretty good dinner. The Kaspers stopped with eggs & then went fishing at Lake McBride with Walt & Cloretta. I rested some and later in the p.m. I laid out quilt blocks to sew. Paul's family came in the eve. Also Gene & Betty & babe. Betty went home early & the other stayed & we played 3 games of cards. Men won all the games.
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 1964- I rode to Mass with Gene & home with Marilyn. Worked on my books and made out checks today & talked on the phone with Wilma & Joann. In the p.m. I went with Louise down to funeral parlor where Mr. Ockenfels body was. We visited with Mrs. O. for a while. In the eve I went with Gene's to Leonard's for Donna Jo's Birthday Supper.
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 1964- Rode to Mass again today with Gene & home with Marilyn. I did some ripping on clothes today & planning to wash tomorrow. Margaret Richey called to say that her mother may come tomorrow evening. Gene & Betty & Philip came over for a little while this p.m. Gene got my Poinsettias out of the ground & carried in for me. Also got my Christmas Cactus's in. Wrote to Bro. John this eve.
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 1964- Got up in good time. Had my coffee & breakfast. Got mail ready & mailed it. Sister Magaretta called & we had a nice visit. It looked rainy like today so I didn't wash. I did quite a bit of sewing. Gene's got their new deep freeze & Ben & Joe came out & got the old one. No one here this eve. I made my Holy Hour.
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 1964- Got up quite early this morning so I could get my Mass Prayers read & get my washing done. Joann called & wanted me to watch Barbie while she went out to City High to see Joe's teacher. So I got more worry for me. Gene got my groceries. Bessie came in the p.m., Steve brought her out. She took down the clothes for me & helped me out. In the eve we had Steve, Larry, Jim & Barbie here while their folks went to Waterloo for the ballgame. Wilma, Connie & Ann also came. Also Libb & Lyle & family came.
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 1964- Didn't get to Mass today. Bessie & I had a good breakfast, toast & eggs & summer sausage. Then Bessie did my ironing. I worked around here cleaning floors, bowls & watering plants. In the p.m. Bessie baby sat with Philip while Betty & I went to confession. I washed my hair & Betty put it up for me. In the eve Louise came & brought me a lb. of butter & some bananas. We had a nice eve & watched the Beauty Pageant.
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 1964- Went to Mass with Betty and then had breakfast with Bessie this morning. Then she went to visit with her friend Lattie and had a nice day. Libb called & she asked me to go with her & Lyle, Rita & Bob to Gertrude's. We went & had a really nice day & a very nice time. Nick's folks were there & looking good. we went to the store in the p.m. & I bought my pen. Then we had lunch. Then went & stopped at Moe's and visited a bit. Then went to see the Festival at Prairies???? Home around 9:00 o'clock.
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 1964- Didn't get up very early, but then we got around and had a good breakfast of pancakes & bacon. Louise came for eggs & I gave her her Birthday gift. Lillian came down & got Bessie so she got to see their new house. Lillian also brought me 2 squirrels. Bessie cut out quilt blocks for me. She decided to stay & Mrs. Mathis came out & got her & took her to her club. Sister Margaretta called me on the phone.
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 1964- We got up in good time this morning & had breakfast. Got the work done up & got ready to go out to Pat's with Betty. Bessie got ready to back to Davenport and we let her off at the bus station. Betty & Pat worked hard at their kitchen floor getting it cleaned for a new coat of Glaxo. I hemmed up 3 dresses for the girls. I stayed all night, slept pretty good.
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 1964- Rainy morning. Got up fairly early & had breakfast with Pat & Glenn, helped around with the work & Pat baked a cake, getting ready for company tonight. Then I worked on another dress & finished it. Then helped fry chicken, peel potatoes, cut cabbage etc., etc., what I could do. Leonard's came out for supper. Had a nice time. I rode home with them.
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 1964- Got up in good time and got started at my work. I made noodles this a.m. First I wrote a letter to Bro. John & 1 to Sister Margaretta and then made noodles & got them rolled out before noon. In the p.m. I put on the electric fan to dry them. Rainy p.m., but Louise brought over good soil & potted plants for me. In the eve I went with Gene & Betty to Paul's for barbecued squirrel supper. It really was good.
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 1964- Got up in good time & got my washing started & got it done & dried in good time. Got started to shortening dress for the Kasper girls. Linda over for a little while to borrow M. W. Co. catalogue. In the eve Gene & Betty got my groceries & Gerald & Pauline & the boys came for a little visit & we watched TV. some.
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 1964- Still haven't got to Mass, hope it will be better next week. I did some cleaning of the floors and also did my ironing. Paul was here & put in a pane of glass in the breezeway for me and also put the new top on the sink in utility room and Ronnie helped him some. Gene mowed the lawns. Quiet eve, no company. Got a letter from Cindy.
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 1964- Went to Mass with Betty and home with them for breakfast. Gene brought me home. Then later he changed the faucets on the sink in the utility room & plugged in my stove. Around 11:00 a.m. Tony came for me. I went to their place for dinner. In the p.m. Wilma & I went to Richmond & got Sister Margaretta & then went to see Aunt Marie & Gladis & Veatress & Harold & then to the cemetery. Got back in good time. Had a good supper, then played cards in the eve.
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 1964- Got to Mass this morning, rode down with Gene & home with Marilyn. I worked this a.m. on old mail that had piled up. In the p.m. I finished a quilt block and laid out another, also sewed on a skirt for the Kasper girls. Gene over for eggs. Leonard came over & fixed the noise on the refrigerator. Quiet evening, all alone as usual.
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 1964- Didn't get to Mass this morning, but got up in fairly good time. Diane stayed with me this a.m. & I gave her dinner & then she went with Mr. K to school. Marilyn & Leonard & Donna went to Cedar Rapids. I sewed this p.m. Late this eve while I watched TV, I sewed on quilt block, finished skirt.
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 1964- Got up in pretty good time, but didn't get to Mass. I worked on mail all forenoon after I had read my Mass prayers. This p.m. I sewed on dress for Kasper girls. Then rested for a while. In the eve I worked on more mail & wrote out checks. Also wrote a letter to Bro. John. Libb & Lyle came after they had been to the hospital to see Roseann & baby.
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 1964- Rode to Mass with Gene & home with Marilyn. Wrote letter to Sister Margaretta and did my washing and got them hung out & they dried real good. Libb brought me egg yolks so I made a double batch of noodles. Louise washed 2 blankets for me today & then brought them home & took down the clothes and made up my spare room bed.
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 1964- I got to Mass again. Home with Marilyn. I got a birthday card ready for Marilyn and wrote a short letter. I also did my small ironing & done before noon, ate my dinner. This p.m. I laid out a quilt block and sewed on it. This eve Gene got my groceries for me. Usual quiet eve, no company.
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 1964- No Mass today and got up rather late but felt pretty good & slowly got my work done. Pat called & said they would come in for supper & bring the chicken. So I got things started, potatoes & corn on & cucumber salad started. So we had a real nice supper. Then Pat & Glenn & the girls went to Confession and I finished up the work. Then we watched TV. for a while & they went home in good time.
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 1964- Went to 7:30 Mass with Betty and then home with her foe breakfast. Then home & wrote 2 letters before noon. Betty called & wanted me to come for dinner. So Gene came over for me and then I came home when they went to her grandparents birthday party. I wrote 5 more letters this p.m. and it took me quite a while. I got a light supper. Then Paul's & Gene's came & we played cards. Louise came for eggs.
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 1964- Rode down to Mass with Gene & home with Marilyn. Then I got all my letters ready & stamped, also sent a card to Roseann & Lee for baby, also card & note to Hattie, also check to Mrs. Jennie Owen for our non - bake sale. Then I mailed all & then mended some on old rugs & washed them. Got a pretty big dinner & done up the work & sewed on quilt block.
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 1964- Got up in good time & went to Mass. Rode down with Gene & home with Marilyn. Around 11:00 a.m. Louise came after me & took me down to Rose's Beauty Shop to get my Permanent. Then came after me again in the p.m. - around 2:30 & had Grandpa Miller with her. Then they visited at Betty's & then came here. Betty brought me a big slab of apple cake. It sure was good. In the eve Libb & Lyle came & took me & we went to Tipton to see Fanny Lance & take them a gift for their 50th Anniversary which they celebrate next Sunday, but I couldn't go because it's Sister's visiting day.
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 1964- Didn't get to Mass. When I got
up I got breakfast and got my 3 rugs to washing & also got the bath tub cleaned.
Joann called & talked a while. In the p.m. I worked some on a quilt block. Gene
came over & painted edge of porch at Watts. They got my groceries this eve.
I was alone as usual. Wrote to Bro. John & Sister M. & made check out for Gas
& Elec.
