WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 1, 1964- I hope this will be a good year for me & my family. I sure miss dad yet, but feel God's will be done. I went to 7:30 Mass with Gene & Betty & then they had breakfast with me. Then they went home. I read prayers - talked on the phone with Libb, Louise, Wilma, Pat, Catherine, Bessie & Gene - Ben & Joann & Jim, Larry & Steve were out & visited for a while. Then a little after 1:00 p.m.. went with Gene & Betty to Paul's - had my first fall on ice - not to bad. We stayed for supper - came home around 10:00 p.m.
THURSDAY, JANUARY 2, 1964- Got up fairly good time, read my prayers & got breakfast. Then I did my washing - Mrs. Watts got my mail - A good letter from Sister Margaretta, Soldiers Relief check. Worked on Baby Comfort - got the inside ready. Then Louise came over & brought the outside material for me, also acct. book. This eve I wrote 4 letters to Mary, Reg, Gertrude & Myrtle. Made Holy Hour late.
FRIDAY, JANUARY 3, 1964- First Friday & I rode down to Mass with Paul's children, all but Tom. Then they brought their breakfast & ate here & stayed until about 11:30 a.m. Ronnie cleaned & oiled my sewing machine, the girls helped take down Christmas & etc., I sewed a little. Marilyn & kiddies also here in the forenoon for eggs. In the p.m. Gene here looking after things. In the eve Dick & Reg & the boys came and we visited & had coffee out of the new cups. Then I rode with them down to Dietsch's to see Carol & came home with Carl & Louise.
SATURDAY, JANUARY 4, 1964- Went to Mass with Betty & then to the grocery store. After I got home I finished writing Bro. John's letter & then I got my breakfast. Gene & Ben & Mike went over & worked at the back place & got the water running into the house now. I did my work as usual. Betty came over before noon & cleaned. In the eve Gene & Betty came & took down the lights & packed Christmas things away for me. In the eve Paul's & G & B & Father Benda came & we played cards very late. So was late to bed.
SUNDAY, JANUARY 5, 1964- Went to Mass with Gene & Betty. Then had a long forenoon. Then Libb called & said she was coming up. So then we decided to visit Frances - so then Libb wanted to give her the Reunion Book - so we went down to her place & got it & then went to Frances' & had a real nice visit then came back. I was alone until supper time. Gene & Betty brought hamburgers & french fries & ate with me - then went home. Agnes called & said Aunt Ell passed away this morning. Made late Holy Hour.
MONDAY, JANUARY 6, 1964- Went to Mass, Rode down with Gene and Betty & home with Marilyn & kiddies. Joann called me & we talked a long time. I finished my breakfast & then did my washing - didn't hear from Bro. John yet today - talked to Libb & told her about Aunt Ell - then talked to Pat so she could order flowers. Gene took the money down to the bank I got checks ready to mail, watched TV this eve. More about the Pope.
TUESDAY, JANUARY 7, 1964- Went to Mass, usual way & home again & then I had breakfast. Joann called & talked a while. Put up my hair & watered plants. Got Bro. John's letter, so got it read, got my dinner & then got ready to go to Aunt Ell's funeral. we got over there in good time - went to the funeral home, saw our flowers & viewed the body. Then went back to the house and visited with the families some, then stopped at the cemetery & then home by 4:30. Pretty tired. Went to Card Party with Louise, so up late again.
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 8, 1964- It was snowy & stormy this morning, so I didn't get to Mass. I read my prayers & got my breakfast. Then Louise came & we worked over all old papers & things today & got Ins. policies etc. - put away in tin box - so she was here for dinner & all day. Frank Sueppel & the Ins. adjuster was out today but didn't go to the back place. Wilma & Clarence out this eve. I wrote to Sister, also today to Capper's Ins., also sent check to Eicher's, also letter to Gas Co. in C.R.
THURSDAY, JANUARY 9, 1964- Didn't get to Mass today but got around fairly early anyway. Read my prayers & got the Pheasant browned in the oven, made the dressing & put it in before dinner. Don Reynolds came after dinner & paid his bill of $23.92 for repairs and labor over at the back place. Then I went with Louise downtown, we stopped & got Bessie - then she came home with us. Louise took me to the Dr. for a change - B.P. check up. !60/80. Up late again, had Gene & Betty for supper & they stayed for a while.
FRIDAY, JANUARY 10, 1964- Didn't get to Mass. Bessie here all night. We had a good breakfast. Bessie did some ironing. I washed 2 batches of clothes, hunted up material for her to make quilt blocks for quilt for Joann's baby to be. In the eve I tied Baby Comfort. Paul & Lillian here in the eve. I was up late as usual with saying prayers.
SATURDAY, JANUARY 11, 1964- No Mass again today. Not to cold. Bessie still here. We had a good breakfast, she fried the bacon & eggs for me. I did my Saturday work, watered plants, cleaned bowls. Betty cleaned the floors. I wrote letter to Bro. John & we mailed it when we took Bessie home & got groceries and went to Confession. I baked a Molasses cake today. Alone all evening.
SUNDAY, JANUARY 12, 1964- Went to 7:30 Mass with Gene & Betty - then they stayed for breakfast. Later in the a.m. Lyle came for me & I went to their place for a Birthday Party for Rita, Gerald's also were there & I rode home with them. After I got home I wrote to Larry's & then ate a little supper & then went with Gene & Betty to Paul's. Marilyn & Bill also came out.
MONDAY, JANUARY 13, 1964- Didn't get up very early today as I didn't go to Mass. Had my breakfast. Mrs. Yoder, also Joann called. I sewed on the Baby Comfort. Phyllis & Catherine came out & ate their lunch & stayed until time to get the school kids. Mrs. Watts brought the mail. I watched TV & worked on Comfort in the eve.
TUESDAY, JANUARY 14, 1964- No Mass again today. So I got up fairly good time. Worked as usual on baby comfort & other jobs. Ann came over & brought back our cards. Gene stopped in & did a few things for me. Louise came for a little visit. Then I had a long evening alone as usual.
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 15, 1964- I got up in pretty good time & read my prayers & got my breakfast. I watered plants & cleaned up some, also mopped the bathroom. In the p.m. I worked at the supper as Gene brought a rabbit over for me to cook & it really was good. Then Gene & Betty came over for supper & stayed a while. Afterward Pat called & plans to come after me in the morning.
THURSDAY, JANUARY 16, 1964- Got up in pretty good time & got my breakfast. Pat & Jerry came for me around 9:00 o'clock & I got ready & went home with them. Lyle was helping Glenn put on wallboard so we had a big dinner. Pat made a little Kimono for Joann out of material that I had, then she got a good supper - home made ice cream, delicious deer steak & many other good things. We played a few cards in the eve & then came home. Then I made my Holy Hour & it got pretty late for me.
FRIDAY, JANUARY 17, 1964- Mass for Dad by Marilyn. Rode down with Gene & Betty. Then home with Wilma & she came out to defrost my deep freeze, so we got done in good time & got our dinner. Louise came in the forenoon & got eggs. Marilyn came also in the noon hour & got eggs. Then they had to go. I did my washing. In the eve Paul & Lillian & Linda came, also Libb & Lyle & Bob & Rita, also Marilyn & Bill. After the game Dave & John Frantz, also Tom & Catherine & Phyllis & Johnie came.
SATURDAY, JANUARY 18, 1964- A real nice day. I went to Mass with Gene & Betty & then to the grocery store for groceries. I made up some sausage after breakfast, then Betty came & cleaned & I washed my hair & she out it up for me. Then Glenn came & left the 4 children while he went to a sale, so I had them for dinner. Pretty stiff knees today but I got along. I wrote to Bro. John this p.m. Paul & Gene put up new back door light for Wheeler's. Quiet eve, no company. I sewed a little & said my prayers.
SUNDAY, JANUARY 19, 1964- Went to 7:30 Mass with Gene & Betty. Then we had a good breakfast here. I watched the Memorial Requiem High Mass for President Kennedy from Boston over the TV and read my prayers this a.m. Had lunch & then finished them. Then it was time to get ready to go to Paul's with Gene & Betty. We had a real nice time & a good supper. Played cards late in the p.m. & again in eve. Bernice & Lois were there.
MONDAY, JANUARY 20, 1964- Didn't go to Mass as thought it might be to icy but plan to go tomorrow. I didn't get to much done today. Got Bro. John's letter with the disturbing news of their trouble in Panama. This p.m. I baby sat at Leonard's while they went to Cedar Rapids to see Mr. Duwig who was hit over the head with a 2 x 4 in an attempted hold up at Coca Cola plant.
TUESDAY, JANUARY 21, 1964- Went to Mass this morning. Rode down with Gene & Betty & home with Marilyn. Then M. got eggs & took my shower present to wrap for me. Then Louise came down & brought me grapefruit & a scarf & fixed my purse for me. In the p.m. Wilma came & cleaned my kitchen floor & waxed it, also washed cupboard doors. I washed & run the water over accidentally so Wilma helped wipe it up. Then she helped make my bed. All alone as usual tonight.
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 22, 1964- Went to Mass, got the Crucifix Sick Call sets blessed, home & got my breakfast. Joann called, also Louise, Wilma, Libb, Pat & Betty called today & tonight. Also Mrs. Brown about my hair. I got started on Betty's apron again & got quite a good start. Watched TV & wrote to Sister Margaretta this eve.
THURSDAY, JANUARY 23, 1964- Went to Mass again today. After breakfast I started getting things around ready for dinner as I was expecting Gertrude. She & Pat got here after 11:30 and then left around 12:45 p.m. for hospital. So we visited as fast as we could. In the p.m. I got my work done & watched TV some & talked on phone. In the eve Pat & Glenn & family & Bessie came for supper. Pat brought roast duck, sauerkraut, bread & dressing.
FRIDAY, JANUARY 24, 1964- Didn't get to Mass this morning as there wasn't any school & didn't have any way to get home. So Linda & Johnie came early & were here for dinner. After noon Gene took me to Mrs. Brown's to get my hair fixed & he took John & Linda with him. Gene got my groceries went he went for Betty. Louise came over this eve for eggs & then visited a while.
SATURDAY, JANUARY 25, 1964- No Mass again today. Catherine came early to wait for Gerald's to get her so she could baby sit for them while they went to a wedding. Joann, Mike & Joe out for a while over the noon hour. Marilyn over for a little while & got my Crucifixes to take home & wrap & also finished putting ribbon on my shower gift. Gerald's brought Kay back, then had coffee & bakery stuff they brought. Gene & Betty here for supper. Gene & Betty & I went to Moe's this eve. Kay baby sat at Leonard's.
SUNDAY, JANUARY 26, 1964- Catherine & I went to Mass with Gene & Betty. Then G. & B. stayed here for breakfast & then went home. Then about 12:45 we left to go to Hills for the shower for Sue Moss, Joe Frantz's bride to be. We had a very nice time & she got lots of nice gifts. I went to Wilma's for supper. We played some cards in the evening & then Clarence & Wilma brought me home.
MONDAY, JANUARY 27, 1964- Went to Mass. I rode down with Gene & Betty and home with Marilyn & kiddies. She brought home the wedding gifts she had wrapped for me. I did my washing in the forenoon and kept busy. In the p.m. I worked on Betty's apron. Gene was over & put catches on 2 cupboard doors for me. Carl & Louise came for me, then we went to Libb's for Bob's Birthday. Had a real nice time. Pretty cold tonight.
TUESDAY, JANUARY 28, 1964- 1 below zero. Went to Mass again - usual way - pretty cold. Had quite a pain in shoulder or back this morn, but it got better. Joann, Pat & Louise called also Gene. I called Aunt Frances to tell her about Panama. I worked quite a lot on Betty's apron. Gene stopped in this p.m. otherwise no company in afternoon or eve.
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 29, 1964- Went to Mass again today - usual way back & forth. I worked on my red dress, cleaning it etc. Also watered plants & worked on Betty's apron. Pretty disturbed about changing of our phone line, so may try to get private or 2 party phone. Wrote letter to Myrtle also to Sister. Up pretty late tonight.
THURSDAY, JANUARY 30, 1964- Went to Mass & after Mass rode with Marilyn down to grocery store - so I got home around 8:00 a.m. Got a little breakfast & more around noon. Then Ronny came & I got him something to eat too. Louise called the Phone Co. & they are going to put Gene & me on a 2 party line next Monday. Assessor here today. Ronny went with Gene. No company this eve. Made Holy Hour.
FRIDAY, JANUARY 31, 1964- Went to Mass. Rode down with Gene & Betty and home with Marilyn. A little damp outside this morning. Joann called, she is not so good. Got my breakfast, then Mrs. W. brought the mail. Ronny stopped in for a while before noon. Gene over in p.m. & put some tar around chimney. I worked on Betty's apron & dusted today. Lee & Roseann & children here this eve.
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 1964- Catherine & I went to Mass with Gene & Betty. Then after Mass Lillian, Ronny, John & Catherine came for breakfast. Gene & Betty & I went to the grocery store first. After breakfast I did some washing & wrote to Bro. John & sent off for some fancy work for Sister M. Late in the p.m. Al - from out by Chicago visited me - very interesting talk. Glenn came for me & took me to Leonard's for supper & evening. Nice time. Phyllis stayed all night & then she went to Libb's.
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 2, 1964- Gene & Betty took Phyllis & me to Mass, Women's Sunday. Then Gene & Betty here for breakfast as usual. Then they went home. Louise came for eggs. Ben & Joann came out for the little crib & cupboard and visited a while, gave them some shirts of Dad's. Leonard's came after Mass & Donna came in for her little ring that had been lost. Libb & Pat each called on phone. I rested a little after dinner. Gene called & talked for a while & I called Wilma. Then Pat's stopped for me & I went with them to Gerald's for Frances' belated Birthday supper.
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 1964- Rode down to Mass with Gene & Betty & home with Marilyn. Joann called. Louise came over & got things ready for our party tomorrow night. I worked on Betty's apron some in the p.m. & eve. Got our telephones changed to a 2 party line with Gene's now. Mr. Wheeler brought the rent. Talked to some of the girls this eve. Watched TV.
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 1964- Overslept but Gene & Betty waited for me so I got to Mass today. Then home with Marilyn & she got eggs then. This a.m. I wrote out checks & cooked the hambone & beans & made bean soup. Got 4 pt., 1 qt. in deep freeze. In the p.m. I worked on Betty's apron & watched TV, had a light supper & then went with Louise to our Card Party. We were Hostesses. 22 there.
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 1964- Went to Mass. Usual way & home again. Louise came down & brought my things & we visited quite a while. I worked some with my plants & changed them around & also watered them good. Gene & Betty came over. She trimmed my roses for me. They brought a quilt for me & they cut it in 2 for me to cover & then they bought the material. I wrote to Sister Margaretta this eve. Made late Holy Hour.
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 1964- Went to Mass usual way, then Marilyn brought me home. So I got my breakfast & then came after me & took me to Mrs. Brown's to get my hair fixed. Then she did her shopping & then got me & brought me home. Then I started my washing & got my dinner. Lillian came in time to eat with me. I worked some on Betty's apron & mended some. Then Gene came over & we pinned the cover on the little comfort.
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 1964- Went to Mass as usual & today being First Friday, Louise also came to Mass, then brought me home. I did my ironing this a.m. In the p.m. Gene & I pinned the other comfort. Anna was over to borrow a cookie cutter. Leonard & family was here to get his marbles from when he was a little boy. Heard from Bro. John today. In the eve I wrote to Carol, also Bro. John.
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 1964- Didn't get to Mass today. We went to Joe Frantz & Susie's wedding Mass today. A big crowd. Got home pretty good time. Glenn brought out the children, so they stayed here until he got his business taken care of downtown. In the eve Gene & Betty came. Then Paul's family & later Bill & Marilyn, so we had 10 of us playing cards.
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 1964- Gene & Betty went with the Dietsch's to see Carol at LaCrosse today so Louise & Carl came for me & took me to Mass & then kept me for breakfast. Then she brought me home & the Kaspers came & brought their breakfast & then took me to Ed's for Rosemary's Birthday dinner. Didn't get Bessie as planned so I got Leonard to go after her. Bessie & Phyllis here all night.
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 1964- Didn't get to Mass as Gene thought it might be to slick. So I had to get up early & get Phyllis' breakfast. She had stayed all night & slept on the davenport. Then I did the washing & Bessie the ironing & got started on the baby comfort before noon and finished tying it before supper. Gene & Betty took Bessie to her club meeting. I was alone all evening. Pat called, also Gene called.
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 1964- I went to Mass. Bessie had coffee made & sausage fried when I got home & then she baked the pancakes. Sure was a good breakfast. I worked most of the day on the baby blanket for Gene & Betty. Bessie ironed & cooked the dinner. In the p.m. we washed the bedding & then Bessie made up the beds for me. Tom took her home & I had a long eve.
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 1964- Ash Wednesday. I got to Mass today, got ashes & made the Stations after Mass, came home with Marilyn. Had to get Reynolds out to light the hot water heater at Wheeler's today. He said it needed cleaning. Cost me $3.50. Ed & Mary were here for dinner. Snowed quite a lot today. Gene & Betty went to Davenport today. I finished working on Betty's apron & worked some on baby crib comfort. Wrote a big letter to Sister M.
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 1964- Phyllis stayed all night again. Didn't get to Mass this morning on account of the weather. I got up in good time though & got Phyllis' breakfast. Joann called & talked a long time. I basted on one of the comforters for the baby crib & also finished Betty's apron, all but pressing it. Rec'd a lovely Azalea for a Valentine gift from Louise. Wilma, Libb & Pat & Glenn brought out the eggs late. I worked on Pauline's apron this eve.
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 14, 1964- Didn't get to Mass so didn't get up very early. I finished basting around the edges of baby comfort, so hope to get them stitched tomorrow. I also got Betty's apron pressed & sent over to her. I kept Diane & Donna this p.m. while Marilyn went to the Dr. Paul & Lillian here in the eve while the kids went to the ball game.
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 15, 1964- Went to Mass with Gene & Betty & then to the grocery store. Then in the forenoon I finished the crib comforters for Betty & Gene & also did some of my other Saturday work around here. Then got ready to go to Pat's for supper around 4:00 p.m. with Gene & Betty. We had a good supper & a nice time & played cards. Phyllis came home with us & stayed all night.
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 16, 1964- Phyllis & I went with Gene & Betty to 7:30 Mass. Then home & Gene & Betty stayed for breakfast. Then they were in a hurry to go home as usual. I read prayers & got ready to go to Wilma's. Clarence & Ann came after me & I was there for dinner & supper. Libb's family were also there for supper for Connie's Birthday. Ben called this morning to tell me their baby girl was born this morning. All are pretty well & happy.
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 17, 1964- Went to Mass. Then came home with Marilyn and the kiddies. Then they got eggs. Was awful tired today so only got done what I had to & worked on Pauline's apron quite a lot & watched TV. Louise came for eggs also today. Joann called me & it was good to hear from her. Ben also called.
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 1964- Went to Mass. Made the Stations afterwards. Came home with Marilyn. Snowy & melting today most all day. Lillian came out & was here for dinner. I got a fairly good dinner. Then we watched TV. I worked quite a lot on Pauline's apron. Watched some of Regina - Regis Basketball game tonight. Regina got beat pretty bad. Catherine & Phyllis went up on the bus to the game. Mike 8 years old today.
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 1964- Mass for Dad but didn't get to Mass. Gene thought it would be to icey. So read my prayers & got my washing & drying done. Louise did some shopping for me & we visited some. Gene & Betty came over & she washed & waxed the kitchen & bathroom floors. Gene burned papers & took out garbage etc. Libb & Lyle here in the eve. I wrote to Sister late in eve. Mike entered hospital tonight for X-rays.
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 1964- Went to Mass usual way. Got the Stations made & rode home with Marilyn. Leonard & Marilyn got their new carpet put down today, so brought most of their dinner over here to eat. So the little girls stayed until Marilyn brought home the school children. Joann & baby came home from hospital today. Mike still there.
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 1964- Went to Mass with Betty, home with Marilyn & got myself a good breakfast. Got Bro. John's letter - so that took quite a while to read & looked at the mail. Joann called to tell me about Mike. They were worried & I sure got worried too & did lots of praying for him today. Later in the p.m. she called & said he was going to come home & it wasn't serious, has to have soft diet. Paul's family here tonight.
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 1964- We didn't get to Mass today as Gene was going out to work at Betty's Mother's farm and Betty was to busy to go. So I got my breakfast after reading my Mass Prayers. Then I put up my hair. Betty came over & did the floors. I wrote to Bro. John & Myrtle & we mailed them when we went to Confession. After we got home I still had to water plants. In the eve Pat & Glenn & family came & brought Phyllis to stay all night. They also brought eggs.
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 1964- Phyllis & I went to Mass with Gene & Betty. Then I had Gene & Betty for breakfast & then I was alone until after 2:00 p.m. We went down to St. Pat's to Ben & Joann's baby girl Baptized, Barbara Joann. Then home & alone again. Read Prayers & got me a good supper & talked on phone to Louise, Libb & Pat. We visited Roseann in the hospital in the p.m. In the eve we went to Carl & Louise's & played cards.
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 1964- Went to Mass today. Was quite cold but nice under foot. I worked on aprons today. Louise came & brought me some Tongue. Gene was over for a little while. Joann called for her long talk. Long evening but talked with Pat & Libb. Got card ready to send to Roseann at the hospital.
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 1964- Went to Mass again & then said the Stations. Doug came in church after me. Usual day, talked with Joann, got my meals & worked on apron. Mrs. Watts brought my mail. Louise came down with some Broccoli & Heart & Tongue. The guys started to put in the gas pipes for Gene's & me in aluminum house & neighbor's. Ordered Space Heater for aluminum house.
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 1964- Got to Mass again today & also made Stations. Usual telephone calls & doing hand work on aprons. Gene & Betty went to Davenport & found out for sure they are getting a baby and soon. This eve Ben & Joann & baby girl, Steve, Larry & Jim were out for a little visit. Gene & Betty came over for a little while.
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 1964- Went to Mass. Louise also came & then brought me home and got eggs. I did my washing this a.m. and got them dried. Did a little sewing this p.m. They finished getting the gas in the aluminum house & then found out we had a cracked furnace. So that means a new one. Hope we can get one real soon. Wilma & Clarence were here tonight. She brought my dress to fit it.
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 1964- Went to Mass. Then home with Louise. We had our breakfast & then went to Mrs. Brown's by 8:30 a.m. and each of us got our hair fixed. Then when we got back Louise called more about getting a furnace. Then before noon they called her & gave us a good bargain & they delivered it this p.m. Then later Gene went down & got the chimney liner so we are all set for tomorrow. Went to a shower for Marilyn this eve.
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 29, 1964- We didn't get to Mass today. Later on Betty took me downtown & we went to the Eagles store & got our groceries. Paul stopped in for a little while in the p.m. I made a batch of cookies & did other Saturday work. Ben & Mike came out & helped Gene put in our new furnace in the aluminum house. They got done around 11:00 a.m. I wrote letter to Bro. John before supper. Gene & Betty here in the eve.
SUNDAY, MARCH 1, 1964- Went to Mass with Gene & Betty. Forester's Ladies sat with Altar & Rosary today. All rec'd Communion as it was The Day of Recollection. Gene & Betty stayed for breakfast & after dinner I rode with Lillian & Linda to Louise's for the shower for Joann's baby, Barbara Joann. We had a nice time, good crowd & nice gifts. Pat brought Bessie out & then brought us home. Bessie is staying all night.
MONDAY, MARCH 2, 1964- Went to Mass. Bessie the got our breakfast of pancakes & eggs, also had grapefruit. I did hers & my washing & she ironed. We had a good dinner of roast pork & we enjoyed it so much. In the eve we retied the little crib comforter for Gene & Betty. They took Bessie home around 8:30 p.m. Tired & achey legs tonight. TUESDAY, MARCH 3, 1964- Went to Mass with Gene & Betty & then Pat & Jerry brought me home & Jerry stayed here while Pat went to the dentist. Then when she came back I went home with them. I helped Pat with noodles, that is I rolled them out & cut them. She baked a cake for me. I also peeled her potatoes for scalloped potatoes that she made for their supper. Also sewed on buttons.
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 4, 1964- Went to Mass the usual way, home with Marilyn & kiddies. Was sort of tired today. Did a little sewing on the machine, also had my plants to water. Had a good letter from Sister M. and also one from Mrs. gibbons. I wrote Sister a big letter. In the eve our lights went out 8:00 p.m. Gene was gone to ball game. Betty came over here & then went back & got Gene's transistor so we could hear the Regina - Iowa City game. Regina got beat. We lit the oven to keep warm.
THURSDAY, MARCH 5, 1964- Lights came back on about 1:30 a.m. so they say. It rained & snowed last evening so it was pretty slippery & Betty didn't think it was fit for me to go to Mass, so I stayed home. Mrs. Watts brought my mail . I spent the day as usual - sewing a little on aprons & a little on a quilt block. We think the renters have moved out of the back place. So I guess Ben & Gene will go in Saturday to find out. Talked to Louise, Pat & Libb this eve.
FRIDAY, MARCH 6, 1964- First Friday. Went to Mass. Rode down with Gene & Betty & home with Louise. I did a little sewing on quilt block, got some fish ready for my dinner. Dick & Reg & the boys came. Dick got new tires & they also took the television home with them. Gene got our space heater & not to satisfied with it. Louise brought over some Salmon loaf for me & also a piece of red Waldorf Cake. I wrote a letter to Bro. John.
SATURDAY, MARCH 7, 1964- Didn't get to Mass today. Betty to busy. Ben came out & we talked about the space heater & decided pretty much against it. Then Ben & Gene went over to the back place & Ben told the people to find another place to live so we could clean up over there. We never before told anyone to move out. In the p.m. Gene took the space heater back & got the money back. Then bought an electric heater. In the eve we went to Libb's.
SUNDAY, MARCH 8, 1964- Phyllis came home with us from Libb's as Pat's was down there too & brought her along. So Phyllis & I went with Gene & Betty to Mass. Then Phyllis went home with her folks. Gene & betty was here for breakfast. Then I was alone & early afternoon we went to Paul's & was there for a good supper as Tom's Birthday was this last week & we came home in fairly good time. I talked to Marilyn & told her I wouldn't be going to Mass in the morning. Betty & Gene don't think it will be very good.
MONDAY, MARCH 9, 1964- Didn't get to Mass today as the folks thought it would be to icy for me to go. So I read my Mass prayers at home. I worked on cleaning out old letters etc., etc. In the p.m. frank Sueppel came out with another policy for the back place or adjustment for my policy. Wilma & Clarence & Ann came in the eve. Wilma brought my dress she had made for me from material I got from Bessie for Christmas.
TUESDAY, MARCH 10, 1964- I went to Mass today & came home with Marilyn & kiddies. I worked over letters & cards this a.m. & got things ready for Louise to take downtown & also to buy for me. Lillian came out & had dinner with me. She wrote out the Heavenly Hash Cake recipes for me. In the eve Pat & Glenn & family, also Louise, Marilyn, Betty & Gene came & got the invites ready for Marilyn's shower.
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 11, 1964- Went to Mass. Then worked on Mail about all forenoon. In the p.m. Joann & baby daughter visited with me. That baby sure is growing. Then Betty came & took me & we went to Devotions & then to Confession. Gene also stopped on his way home from work. Got back in good time & got started on writing to sister. Then watered plants. In the eve we went down to Riverside to see Joe & Susie. Lyle & Libb & family also went. We had a nice time. I finished Sister's letter after I got home & prayers said.
THURSDAY, MARCH 12, 1964- Went to Mass. Then Marilyn got me as usual. I washed this forenoon & dried them. Gene stopped in for a little while when he left his car. Then this eve Marilyn left Doug & Donna here while she did some shopping.
FRIDAY, MARCH 13, 1964- Went to Mass & then after Mass, Stations. Marilyn left me off at Mrs. Browns to get my permanent. She also gave me doughnuts for my breakfast. Mrs. Brown had coffee, toast, butter, jelly, apple sauce & juice, so I was really treated swell. Charles brought me home. In the p.m. I kept Dianne & Donna for Marilyn. Louise got me groceries & then got eggs here. Marilyn visited a little & also got eggs. In the eve Paul's family & Libb & Lyle & children came.
SATURDAY, MARCH 14, 1964- Didn't get to Mass today as Gene & Betty were to busy to go. Gene got his new furnace put in today. I finished writing my letter to Bro. John and did my Saturday work. In the p.m. I watered plants, emptied garbage & did other work around here. Had a caller to buy the back place, also a phone call for a renter. Got a fish supper for Gene & Betty. Then we went to Pat's.
SUNDAY, MARCH 15, 1964- Went to 7:30 Mass with Gene & Betty. Then they stayed here for breakfast. Then I got some prayers read & then Paul's came & took me along with them to Davenport. We got up to St. Ambrose & then Lillian & Paul went in to get him. Then we went to Spartan's & they did some shopping. Then we drove all around. Saw the lovely St. Pius X at Rock Island. Then we also saw the Bishop's house, Assumption School, new Victory School, also improvements on Saint Paul Holy family. Gerald's here in the eve.
MONDAY, MARCH 16, 1964- Went to Mass. Home with Marilyn & kiddies. Had lots of calls in the forenoon & didn't get much done. Was pretty tired too. Got Pauline's apron finished, all but clipping threads & pressing. Ann was in for a while this a.m. Gene here in the p.m. No company this eve. Marilyn called & wanted me to help dress Banties on Wednesday.
TUESDAY, MARCH 17, 1964- Went to Mass & home with Marilyn & kiddies. Then I washed this forenoon and worked on Easter Cards. I got started on working on Louise's curtains for Charles' room, but they didn't come out to even, so I'm going to wait until she has time to help me cut them off. Frank Sueppel here a while to see about more insurance. Also another insurance man here to check on Wheeler's & Watt's houses.
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 18, 1964- Went to Mass & then went with Marilyn Frantz to Libb's to help dress Banty chickens. We did 30 & Libb gave me 6 of them, also egg yolks & livers home with me. After we were through with them I helped Libb on aprons she was making for the Walters & cake cutters for the wedding. I got home & had my supper, watched a good play over TV, wrote letter to Sister M. Paul & Lillian stopped in to tell me they sold their farm.
THURSDAY, MARCH 19, 1964- St. Joseph Feast Day. Went to Mass. Louise came and brought me home. This forenoon I made noodles & then rolled them out & left them lay. Pat left Jerry here while she went to the dentist. In the p.m. Louise came and got me & we went downtown & talked with Jackson. Then did quite a lot of shopping. I took it pretty good. Cut my noodles after we came home.
FRIDAY, MARCH 20, 1964- First day of spring. I didn't get to Mass as we had a snow storm. So I read my prayers at home. Mass was for Dad today & Johnie & Linda both got there. I worked on Easter Cards and letters today. Gene was here for a little while & shoveled off the walk for me. Paul, Lillian, Linda, John, Tom & Kay here tonight.
SATURDAY, MARCH 21, 1964- Went to Mass with Gene & Betty. Then we mailed letters & went to the Me-Too for ice cream. I kept busy today with my housework. In the p.m. Louise came & took back a pair of her curtains that she thought she might have time to do. In the eve we went to Paul's & found out that he was having his sale April 1st.
SUNDAY, MARCH 22, 1964- Went to 7:30 Mass with Gene & Betty. Then they were here for breakfast. I worked around the house this a.m. getting things picked up. Then I fixed the scalloped chicken so I could bake it when we got home from the shower. Ed & the boys came while we were at the shower & brought lots of food for our supper. So we had a very nice eve. Bessie came out to stay all night.
MONDAY, MARCH 23, 1964- Went to Mass. Bessie had breakfast started when I got home & we had french toast, fried eggs & grapefruit, very good. Then today I did lots of washing, 4 batches, and Bessie ironed, so all caught up now. Gene & Betty took Bessie home. Ben & Joann & baby came out for a while. Gene & Ben hunted up some things for Ben.
TUESDAY, MARCH 24, 1964- Went to Mass. Today I wrote letters & finished getting all my cards stamped & ready to go. Anna was over for a little while & brought me an Easter gift & cookies. Gene was in for a while. Gene called & said I better not go to Mass on account of the weather.
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 25, 1964- I didn't get to Mass. So I read my Mass prayers and worked on Louise's curtains. I got delivered to me from Eicher's a beautiful Gardenia plant from Pat & Glenn & family & Gene & Betty. In the p.m. G. & B. & I went to Novena & to Confession. Phyllis stopped here on the way home from school & went with us out to Pat's for Jerry's Birthday. It snowed pretty hard & was slippery.
THURSDAY, MARCH 26, 1964- High Mass this p.m. for Dad at 5:00, so Louise came & got me and brought me home. I watered plants this a.m. & worked around. In the p.m. I finished Louise's curtains and also had Doug & Debbie here while Marilyn was getting a permanent. Quiet eve, no company.
FRIDAY, MARCH 27, 1964- Good Friday. I washed this a.m. & dried in the dryer. In the p.m. I went with Gene to the Solemn Devotions. My refrigerator went bad today. So after devotions Gene looked for a 2nd hand one for me, but no luck. Then he got my groceries. In the eve we went to the Way of the Cross and after we got home Gerald's family came. Gerald & Gene tried to get the refrigerator to run, but no luck.
SATURDAY, MARCH 28, 1964- This morning I called Leonard & told him my refrigerator had gone bad & asked him to look for one for me. So he found a good Philco which I got for $220.00, a bargain I guess. We had lots of help today to get things hunted up of Pop's machinery & tools to put in Paul's sale for next Wed. Libb & Lyle & John Frantz, Ben. Mike, Ken & Joe & Gerald & Glenn, Gene & Betty. Glenn, Ben's & Libb brought food. We went to Holy Saturday Services tonight. Libb brought flowers & trimmed my hat, also brought me new light blue gloves for Easter gift.
SUNDAY, MARCH 29, 1964- We went to 7:30 Solemn High Mass. Quite a snowy day. Snowed quite hard at times & wind was strong. Gene & Betty had breakfast with me & they brought the bacon. Pat & Glenn & Family & Phyllis came out after 6:00 Mass & brought their breakfast & ate it here. Paul's stopped in & got Phyllis. Mildred Klein came out & got me & we went to Wilma's & spent the day there. Had a nice time, but was awfully tired. Came home around 10:00.
MONDAY, MARCH 30, 1964- Didn't get to Mass as no way to get home. Around noon Glenn & children came & I got dinner for them & then Glenn had business & I kept the children here. Debbie & Douglas came over for eggs, so they had a big time playing. Rec'd Easter Card from Larry's & the Children. Good letter and good news.
TUESDAY, MARCH 31, 1964- Went to Mass this morning and Ronnie & Johnie brought me home & were here for breakfast. Then Gene & Ronnie worked on the brakes of Paul's car & I had all of them for dinner. I washed a batch of clothes & got things sort of planned out what to get at Ann Marie's Tupperware Party tonight. Wilma, Libb & Joann gave me orders. Had a real nice time. Walked over with Eva & Betty, home with Eva.
