THURSDAY, JANUARY 1, 1953 Dad & I & Moe & Bro. John went to 7:30 Mass-the others to 9:00 also Bens went to 9:00 & left 4 of the boys here -then all of us & Glen also who came for Pat- went out to Echriches for dinner- and also stayed for supper- had a real nice time- Len took Bro. John to show this eve

FRIDAY, JANUARY 2, 1953 We went to Mass-then after breakfast I did a few batches of washing to keep it down for next week - Bro. John visited at the Rectory with the priest-then he & I went to Elizabeths for dinner & Wilma's for supper, had a nice time.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 3, 1953 We went to Mass as usual- then I had a busy day cleaning up the house and getting ready for Sunday - Bro. John downtown in the P.M. visiting Mrs. Hoffman and others - In the eve they looked at pictures. Bro. John was hunting up some to take back with him.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 4, 1953 Dad & I, Len & Bro. John went to 6:00 Mass -then Bro. John went hunting with Paul & Ben- Bens family were here for dinner & Pauls & Eds came in the P.M. Bro. John went downtown in the P.M. for a little visit- We had early supper - and left around 6:00. Len, Carol, Dad & I - Pat & Wilma & her family all there to see him off.

MONDAY, JANUARY 5, 1953 We went to Mass - had all the little folks as school started again today - I did the washing & Joann washed in the eve. Pat home- Gene practicing.

TUESDAY, JANUARY 6, 1953 We went to Mass as usual- It's snowing this morning so after breakfast we got the clothes off the line & finished drying them - got the ironing done by working late - Pat helped in the P.M. Pat & Glen & others went to Marion.

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 7, 1953 We all went to Mass -I was pretty tired today - cleaned up the house - put clothes away and mended some- We went to ball game in eve- St. Mary's beat St. Pat's Cedar Rapids 37 to 28- Gene played good.

THURSDAY, JANUARY 8, 1953 Slept late - but got to Mass on time - Len home early for dinner on his way to Solon wrote card to Gertrude, letter to Louise - cleaned up the house some & put end on blanket - Went to town in P.M. Dad changed his sweater for 3 shorts. We went to Novena & confession- Bens came over, we helped them dress chickens, put in deep freeze.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 9, 1953 We went to Mass - as usual- snowed and the streets a little slippery - I wrote to Sister Margaretta & Bro. John - Sewed a little. Gene left early to go with the baseball team to Dyersville, they won 55 to 54 -Pauls & Bens to Lyles for oyster supper tonight- Moe came home.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 10, 1953 We went to Mass, Maurice too - after breakfast I baked pies, 5 big, I small pumpkin pies & 2 apple pies. Was busy in the kitchen most of the day. Pat & Joanie went to the dance where Glenn played -Joanie stayed all night - Pauls here in eve, also Gerald & Pauline.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 11, 1953 We all went to Mass at 7:30 but Len - We all sat together & went to Holy Communion together too, Holy Family Sunday, Pat, Maurice, I, Dad & Gene in the line together. Bens went to 11:30 Mass-then stayed for dinner & supper- In the eve Dietsch's came, also Carol & Leonard & played cards. Glenn & Pat to a show.

MONDAY, JANUARY 12, 1953 We went to Mass-I sent our White Cross Insurance, also money for Christmas Seals & Guarantee card in for my flyer-Joann and children came over- Dad & Joann went downtown in a.m. - In the P.M. she washed & they were here for supper- Pat & Glenn went skating & dancing - Gene came home sick from practice.

TUESDAY, JANUARY 13, 1953 Gene was quite sick all night but got up & milked & went to Mass & served Mass. We all went. I did my washing, hung them all outside, not too good for drying - Len & Carol went to Gerald's for supper - Pat at home

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 14, 1953 We all went to Mass- Gene feels some better but Dad milked for him - he went back to school- Pat home this P.M. I cleaned up the downstairs- Pat cleaned her room, went out with Glenn to sock hop dance at Walcott. We went to b. ball game- Lillian went along. St. Mary's got beat 54 to 41.

THURSDAY, JANUARY 15, 1953 We all went to Mass but Dad. Pat to work, Len home for dinner, also Gene- as he had his graduation picture taken today. Dad sick with intestinal flu but took me to the grocery store in the P.M. & then went to Novena- Pat went to C.Y.O. with Joanie - came home with Len after his ball game.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 16, 1953 We went to Mass & Holy Communion, anniversary Requiem High Mass for Msgr. Shulte - worked around - Lyles here in the eve, Bens for a little while - Moe didn't come home. St. Mary's got beat at Waterloo - Gene made 1 6 points.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 17, 1953 We all went to Mass - went to the grocery store after Mass - I did up Saturdays work, quite a little cleaning but no baking - Pat & Glenn out to a show tonight, also Len & Gene out, Moe came home. Snowed, roads slippery. Pauls were over.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 18, 1953 We overslept so all went to 9:00 Mass -I fried the chicken before we went to Mass Glenn was out here for dinner- and Pat was out to his place for supper- We kept Stevie while Bens went to Wilma's for supper - Carol & Len out to play cards in evening.

MONDAY, JANUARY 19, 1953 We went to Mass- and then I did the washing -Joann came over in the eve & did hers Pat home & Len home- Gene went with b. ball team to play in tournament at Davenport lost to St. Mary's Clinton.

TUESDAY, JANUARY 20, 1953 We went to Mass as usual. Gene served -I listened a lot to the Inaugural speeches and ironed on the ironer in the dining room - Glen & Pat & Gene all went to C.Y.O. dance. Len went to Cedar Rapids to C. Cola meeting.

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 21, 1953 Ed's 42nd birthday. We went to Mass. Dad took the car down to be worked on -I finished the hand ironing. In the eve Dad & I went over to Vets hospital to see Gerald.

THURSDAY, JANUARY 22, 1953 We went to Mass- all 9 of us in Gene's car- as battery was down in ours-then Dad took the car down after breakfast to be worked on - a short in it someplace - wrote letter to Bro. John, went to Novena & confession in P.M.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 23, 1953 We all went to Mass as usual here. Dad took the car down again to have some more work done on it-Pat went with girls to show - Glenn came in & brought her home. Moe came home.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 24, 1953 We went to Mass- usual Sat. work, Gene & Ronny hauled hay- Dad took the day off. Pat & Glenn went out as usual.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 25, 1953 We, Dad, Moe & I went to 7:30 Mass- Pat & Gene to 9:00, Ben & Joann & Mickey went with them - Len went to 6:00. Ben's family stayed for breakfast & dinner & went home about 3:00 P.M. No company - only Lillian. Pat out to Glenns for dinner & supper. St. Mary's played St. Mary's Waterloo, lost 5 8 to 42.

MONDAY, JANUARY 26, 1953 We went to Mass - I did my washing - got through in pretty good time - Pat home in the P.M. , washed her hair & mine - went downtown & got a new dress & blouse - went with Glenn to a dance at Community- Dad & I & Ronny went to b. ball game- St. Mary's lost to St.? C.R. 56-40. Leonard sick today.

TUESDAY, JANUARY 27, 1953 We went to Mass- Dad got Joann & he took her downtown to shop -then Lillian & Johnie came over & Lillian gave her a permanent- after that she did her washing - Pat also home this P.M. Glenn came, brought her a new scarf sent by, Virgil from Germany-they went out got some ironing done today -Joann & family here for dinner & supper.

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 28, 1953 We went to Mass, I dampened the ironing before we went to church, then worked at it on & off during the day & got it done- Dad started fixing my cupboards & put new floor in it - We all went to b. ball in eve, Burlington Catholic beat us 11 points, our boys played a good game.

THURSDAY, JANUARY 29, 1953 We went to Mass - Gene had trouble starting his car so he & the boys didn't get to Mass. Dad & I went early to Novena & went over to Vets hospital, visited Gerald & Bernie Wieskamp who was there for a day.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 30, 1953 We went to Mass as usual- Dad worked more on cupboards & I finished putting things away- he went to a sale in the P.M. I cleaned up floors- Pat & Glenn went to dance Glenn's band played. Moe came home. Lyles & Pauls here in eve.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 31, 1953 We all went to Mass- Dad & I went to A&P grocery in the a.m. I did my Sat. work made cupcakes & fruit salad, cleaned floors. Lillian & children over to watch rodeo on television this P.M. Pat & Glenn to dance in C.R. tonight. Aunt Anna brought to hospital.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 1953 Dad & I, Moe & Len went to 7:30 Mass, Women's Sunday- Pat & Gene went to 9:00. We had early dinner as Moe went to C.R. to see Nick initiated into K.C.s - Louise, Carl & Charles came also here for dinner. Wilma & family came in the P.M., also stayed for supper. Hubert & Louis came to tell us Aunt Anna was operated on this A.M.

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 2, 1953 We went to Mass- I did my washing -then early P.M. I went with Dad to see Aunt Anna. She was quite sick & wanted me to stay. I stayed until after evening visiting hours. Hubert & Lois brought me home. Bens here for washing. Pauls kids herein eve-also Libb & Lyle, 4 little ones.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 1953 We went to Mass - I got the hand ironing ready for ironing. Pat was home in the P.M. & did it-I went to the hospital again & stayed with Aunt Anna until 8:00 P.M. - Dad came after me - Pat & Glenn to Tipton tonight.

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 1953 We went to Mass, and I wrote letter to Sister this a.m. - got part of my ironing done finished before supper, then had Gene take me to the hospital for a short visit with Aunt Anna- she is getting better- Pat & Glenn went to Farm Bureau meeting. Pauls here in the eve.

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 1953 We all went to Mass - after breakfast I wrote to Bro. John, also sent card to Aunt Anna Len on way to Solon -home for dinner before 11:00 a.m. - Dad & I went to Novena in rain this P.M. I stopped at hospital for a little while- Aunt Anna coming along just fine-I got to confession- Pat & Glenn went to St. Wenc. potluck. Len went to basketball game. Made my Holy Hour 11:00 P.M. to 12:00 P.M.

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 1953 First Friday - all went to Mass-I wrote letter to Charles, card to Wilma, cleaned up the house some- Dad has bad swelling in face- feels very miserable- Pat home this eve. Moe came home.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 1953 We went to Mass- Dad stayed home & in bed-then went to dentist before noon, got pain pills & poultice for his tooth - I went downtown in P.M. to hospital for short visit & then got my hair fixed. Pat & Glenn to dance- Glenn had to play. Lyle & Libb here.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 1953 Moe, Len & I went to 7:30 Mass, Dad stayed home. I helped with Holy Name breakfast, Moe stayed for it- Home for dinner- Glen here- Gerts didn't come- Pat & Glen went to Hebels in P.M. and for supper - Wilma's here in P.M., Pauls in eve, also Bens kids.

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 1953 We went to Mass- Dad went so I would have a way to get home -I baked pies for the chili supper - then we went a little after 2:00, I went to hospital while Dad went downtown-then he took me to school-I helped with the chili supper- We went to the b. ball game, St. Mary's beat St. Mary's Waterloo 49 to 41.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 1953 We went to Mass - then I did the washing - Dad had the steers hauled to town -also the hogs to be butchered. Pat at home this eve- Len went to meeting in C.R.- Rainy day & night.

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 1953 We went to Mass-and I worked at the ironing today & got it all finished as we have to work at the meat tomorrow.

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 1953 Ed called at 3:15 A.M. to tell us the baby was here- We went to Mass. Joann came over to wash & helped some with the meat. Lillian helped us good all day. Dad took me down for devotions, came home with the school kids. (Birth clipping glued to page)

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 1953 We went to Mass -took the meat to be smoked to the locker, then home. Lillian came over, we worked hard all day getting the skins rendered out, sausage & head cheese made & stuffed - Ed brought the children out this eve while he went to the hospital. Pat worked late.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 14, 1953 We all went to Mass - I worked hard around here cleaning up & doing Sat. work -Dad went to a sale, then came home & he & I went to the hospital to see Aunt Anna & Mary & the baby - Glenn got Pat after work, then they went to dance.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 15, 1953 Sodality Sunday Communion & breakfast, all went to 7:30 Mass. Dad & I sat with Gene at Mass & breakfast- Pat helped serve-then before noon Glenn took Pat out to their place for dinner- Dad & I & Moe went to Wilmas for dinner for Connie's birthday. Glenn & Pat came & got Maurice & went to Nichols for baby Rosemary's baptism. Gerald & Pauline here for dinner (supper ?).

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 16, 1953 Went to Mass-then I did my washing today - Pat at home this P.M. & cleaned up her room - We put the new dresser in her room, also the chiffonier.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 17, 1953 Went to Mass -Joann over today & did her washing. I didn't get much done- only clean up the house- Glenn got Pat-took her out to his place for Junior Farm Bureau party.

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 1953 Ash Wednesday - We went to Mass- Pat started going to St. Wenc. for 7:00 Mass so she can get to work by 7:45. Dad & I went to Novena in P.M. I went to confession-I got all my ironing done today.

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 1953 We went to Mass as usual- Pat to St. Wenc. I wrote letters to Bro. John, sent card to Louise & Aunt Anna- mended some & cleaned up the house. Len signed up to join the Air Corps.

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 1953 We went to Mass- Lillian had to go back to the dentist so I went along down town mailed a pkg. for V & H Dexter for their birthdays, wrote letter to Myrtle, big one to Larry, card to Wilma. In the eve we all went to Stations but Gene. St. Mary's won Sectional Tournament, beating Center Point 78-62, Gene 12 pts.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 1953 We went to Mass- Pat to St. Wenc.- Moe didn't come home last eve- had to work today - Dad & I & Lillian went downtown in P.M. - Dad worked over at Bens on the house. In the P.M. Gene & I went to the cleaners for the clothes. Pat & Glenn went to a show, also Gene- Moe & Len went in Moe's new used 1951 Nash

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 1953 Dad & I- Moe & Len went in Moe's new car to Mass-then I stayed down for the Catholic Daughters day of Recollection - had breakfast & dinner there, over with the Stations at 3:00 P.M., folks all came down for them. All at home in eve. Ben over a while for bread. Pat & Glenn went skating.

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 1953 We went to Mass - Pat to St. Wenc. - I did the washing, pretty good sized one -Dad took Lillian downtown in the P.M. to the dentist, she got the root of her tooth pulled. Glenn out & they got their red corduroy shirts.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 1953 We went to Mass- Pat at home today so went with us to St. Mary's. A very nice day - Pat & I went down when Dad took Lillian down to dentist- Pat got her new glasses frames picked out & ordered. We cleaned our floors & waxed them, did some hand ironing Dad & I & Bessie went out to see the skating.

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 1953 We went to Mass. Joann & the children over today, she washed, then Dad took her & Joey to the Dr., he has a cold - They were here for dinner & supper. In the eve Lyle & Libb, Davey & Johnie were up. Lyle & Libb went with Dad & I & Pat to Novena services

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 1953 We went to Mass -I don't feel very good today & very nervous- Wrote to Bro. John & Mary & Alan-cleaned up the house- Pat & Gene got their income tax ready- Glenn here in eve.

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 1953 We went to Mass- Pat went with Paul & Ben to church at St. Wenc. I worked with my plants most of the day & cleaned up some- Moe came home. Bens came over, went downtown & to Devotions. We all went to the Stations. Gene had to practice this eve.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 1953 We all went to Mass- and I had a busy day cleaning, also baking cupcakes, cake & pie shells- dressing chickens and cleaning up the house- Look for Gert & Nick & children tomorrow. Pat & Glenn went to a show.

SUNDAY, MARCH 1, 1953 Women's Sunday- Dad & I & Moe & Gene went to 7:30 Mass- Pat & Gene went to nine & took Ben & Joann along - Glenn came out for dinner, also Nicholas' came, almost a surprise. Bens came in P.M. Joann & Nick went to Stations, they stayed for supper.

MONDAY, MARCH 2, 1953 We went to Mass -then I did the washing, a pretty large one & first had to get the house straightened up after so much company - Edwards came in P.M. to pay his interest & payment- Bens went shopping -left the kids here.

TUESDAY, MARCH 3, 1953 We went to Mass-I dampened the hand ironing to do today. Pat was home this P.M. so we got our hair washed & set-it started snowing real hard, we got about 5 in. In the eve - Dad went with Pat & Glenn to seethe District Basketball games- St. Mary's lost to W. Branch. I fixed Lens pants.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 4, 1953 We went to Mass- then I did the hand ironing today & cleaned up the house. Dad & I & Pat went to Novena this eve-then Pat went with Glenn to Junior Farm Bureau meeting. Len & Gene went to b. ball games, Iowa City beat Muscatine 46-57, St. Ambrose beat Davenport 58-56.

THURSDAY, MARCH 5, 1953 We went to Mass- Pat to St. Wenc. as usual- Dad busy over at Ben's house- Pat home this eve-tired. Gene & Len went to b. ball games. Eliz & Lyle & family here this eve.

FRIDAY, MARCH 6, 1953 Mass as usual. Went to locker & A&P & Cooks before we came home - got paint for Joann's kitchen - Sewed some this P.M. Moe came home- We went to Stations. Ben & Joann & Mickey went to church & town.

SATURDAY, MARCH 7, 1953 We went to Mass - Joann & children came over today- Dad took her downtown this a.m. -and then made a couple more trips today - Pat & Glenn to show - Maurice & Lento big baseball game.

SUNDAY, MARCH 8, 1953 We went to 7:30 Mass- Men's Sunday - Pat & Gene to 9:00 - We all went to Pauls for dinner, also Glenn, & Louise, Carl & Charles. Pat went home with Glenn & then they went to a party at Hebels- We all went to Devotions in P.M. Moe went home early. Len & Gene went to C.Y.O. Holy Hour. Bens went to Eds.

MONDAY,MARCH 9, 1953 We went to Mass-a very nice spring day- Dad & I went downtown & then to Nichols to visit Ann in the P.M. I mailed my letters of intentions & for Easter cards. Gene to supper for altar boys. Len to ball game, Pat at home.

TUESDAY, MARCH 10, 1953 Went to Mass - wrote letter to Minnie, and then did my washing - Pat home in the P.M., washed her hair and mended some of her clothes- went home with Glenn & his folks, went for supper and eve.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 11, 1953 We went to Mass as usual- Lillian went to work at Thornberries and left Johnie with me as he has the chicken pox. Dad filed his income tax report -then went over to Bens for the rest of the day. Dad & I & Pat went to church. I ironed some.

THURSDAY, MARCH 12, 1953 We went to Mass - I wrote letters to Joyce, Eliz. & Charles - Lillian & Johnie here in morn - while Lillian went downtown.

FRIDAY, MARCH 13, 1953 To Mass as usual-a pretty good day- Dad busy- We went to Devotions in eve- Ben, Joann & Mickey also went.

SATURDAY, MARCH 14, 1953 We went to 7;30 Mass -Moe took us-Dad took me downtown in time far a10:30 appointment to get my hair fixed -then Gene came after me- Dad went to sale- but didn't buy the table.

SUNDAY, MARCH 15, 1953 We went to 7:30 Mass - as usual - Dad & I & Moe & Len - We all went to Lyles for dinner but Leonard- Glenn came in & he took Pat-they went out to his folks for chores then skating. We came back for Devotions. Wilmas & Pauls herein eve.

MONDAY, MARCH 16, 1953 We went to Mass - as usual - then I did my washing - fairly good drying day - Ben looking for a job today

TUESDAY, MARCH 17, 1953 We went to Mass as usual -I ironed some today - Pat & Glenn went out to a dance for St. Patrick's Day- she recd a bracelet from him.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 18, 1953 We went to Mass as usual-I cleaned up the house- We went to Devotions this eve -Dad & I & Pat went to confession this eve - I baked 6 apple pies today.

THURSDAY, MARCH 19, 1953 We went to Mass, St. Joseph's Day- Pats birthday. I cleaned up the house- made her cake, shopped in the morn & got her birthday gift - Glenn out for supper & for eve. Lyles herein eve.

FRIDAY, MARCH 20, 1953 We went to Mass-I worked around here -In the P.M. Ben took Joann out to the Dr., took the children along. We all went to the Stations. Gene kept the children. Pat baby sat at Engels.

SATURDAY, MARCH 21, 1953 We went to Mass- We went downtown after Mass to the cleaners, locker & grocery store -I had a busy day making cupcakes,-salad -etc. etc. getting ready for company tomorrow.

SUNDAY, MARCH 22, 1953 Dad & I - Moe & Leonard went to 7:30 Mass. Eds came & left Alan & Rosemary here while they went to 9:00 Mass -they were here for dinner & supper, also kept B errs 4 boys. Bens also here for supper -and in the eve- quite a heavy rain in eve- Pat went with Glenn to Bill Maiers for dinner & supper.,

MONDAY, MARCH 23;1953 We went to 7:30 Mass - Len sick today with cold - so didn't go to work - I did the washing, pretty chilly & windy hanging them out- but brought them all in- Dad busy working over at Bens.

TUESDAY, MARCH 24, 1953 We went to 7:30 Mass - I kept Bens children a while this a.m. while they went downtown. Dad & Ben loaded up the wallboard- Dad hauled it over & they put some of it on their upstairs room this P.M. Pat drove the Nash downtown & we shopped -I got a navy hat, purse & gloves for Easter.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 25, 1953 We went to Mass - Feast of the Annunciation of Blessed Virgin. I finished my ironing today. Pat home this P.M., washed my hair & hers- washed some blouses etc - Went downtown after school- Dad & I went to Novena. Pat went to Farm Bureau.

THURSDAY, MARCH 26, 1953 We went to Mass as usual- Dad working over at Bens as usual- I washed a pretty good sized washing of bleached clothes etc - but didn't get them all ironed - Pat at home tonight

FRIDAY, MARCH 27, 1953 We went to Mass - Pat to St. Wenc as usual- I wrote letter to Bro. John - cards to Louise & Wilma - Gerald came around 9:30 or 10:00, couldn't get to Dr. at Vets so came here for dinner - Ben sick today with flu - so didn't work - went to Dr. this P.M. We went to Stations. Pat out with Glenn to show with ?? double date.

SATURDAY, MARCH 28, 1953 Went to 7:30 Mass- Pat rode to Mass at St. Wenc. with Paul. We picked her up as usual. I went downtown with Dad after breakfast to get the groceries- Gert & family came around noon. I tried to get a good dinner for them - Dad went to sale- got jars for Joann - Pat & Glenn went riding this eve

SUNDAY, MARCH 29, 1953 Palm Sunday Dad &I & Moe - went to 7:30 Mass, K.C. Sunday - Pauls 4 kids went with us- Ben Joanne & Mickey went with Pat & Gene & Lenin his car. Glenn came for Pat-she went to his place for dinner & supper. They washed their cars & did chores - got home around 8:00,then went skating. We went to Stations in the P.M. Wilmas & Pauls here in the eve.

MONDAY, MARCH 30, 1953 We went to Mass-it was quite rainy so Dad took Pat down to work before he came in for Mass- Dad over to Ben's all day putting wallboard on their upstairs bedroom. I wrote letters to Mrs. Wodohodsky, Verna, Laurence & Ann- Mrs. Gibbons- cards to Myrtle & Rose Gladall. Len went to C. Rapids, all the rest at home. Lyle & Libb ??
