January


TUESDAY, JANUARY 1, 1952 New Years Day and Holy Day - Len & Pat were both out to the skating rink - had a good time - Dad & I & Maurice went to 7:30 Mass. Pat, Len & Gene & Tommy & Ronny went to 9:00. Bens also went to 9:00, left the boys here - Eds came after the 9:00 Mass & stayed for dinner. Carls & Ed went to look at farm then stayed for dinner - after dinner they played cards - so we had 23 for dinner - Pauls worked at their meat, Ben helped them - then they came over late in the P.M. & stayed for supper, also had Bens for supper, 20 in all here - We saw the parade of roses over television from Pasadena, also saw the good football game in the Rose Bowl -Illinois won 40-7 - over Stanford of California.

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 2, 1952 Dad & I, Pat & Gene, Ronny & Tommy went to 7:30 Mass - Pat then went to work - also Len working today - Ben came over early as he had to go downtown, Dad took him & Lillian down, got the last of our meat at the locker - also bought 50 lbs lard - I had a good letter from Bro. John - Bens came over after dinner & went downtown & got their groceries - then stayed here a while - I did a good sized washing. In the eve we all went to basketball game - St. Marys won 49-48 over Burlington, only time they got ahead was the last basket.

THURSDAY, JANUARY 3, 1952 We went to Mass. Pat was home this P.M., helped me get the ironing done - In the evening Dad & I went to the Novena. The children were all home - I mended in the evening. Dad & Ben took the radiator off his car & took it down to get fixed.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 4, 1952 We went to Mass - First Friday & lots of people there -before we were through breakfast - Ed, Mary & Alan came -Mary brought her comforters over to be tied so we did them over at Lillians & all had dinner there - Ben came over after dinner - they went down to get the radiator but it wasn't done - snowed hard today.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 5, 1952 We all went to Mass - Pat on to work as usual - Dad & Lillian went downtown in the a.m. - Dad got Bens radiator and in the P.M. he came over & put it on & then worked on his heater to get it thawed out. Dad & I went to confession & then shopped a little. In the eve Bens came over & went to confession - children stayed here - also Pauls children were here. Eds truck broke down so Dad went down & got him & took him home -

SUNDAY, JANUARY 6, 1952 Dad & I went with Moe to 7:30 Mass - Women's Sunday -Leonard, Pcxt & Gene went to 9:00, Ben & Joann went with them. Bens were here for breakfast, dinner & supper. Pauls went to Kleinschmidts today for dinner - Carls to Eds - We were all home, played some dominoes. In the evening Lyle's family came up - all played cards - Pct & Gene went skating. Leonard was out with the boys.

MONDAY, JANUARY 7, 1952 We went to Mass - it was a fairly good day - But the wind was chilly, we decided to go to Reubens for a little visit. I washed the t-shirt for Lens basketball team, also his trunks & sox before we went. We had a nice visit and Reuben seemed to be holding his own - we brought home 2 kittens -Ben worked for Carl today. Gene went to practice tonight, Pat to school. Gene had his game - they lost but he made 19 points.


TUESDAY, JANUARY 8, 1952 We went to Mass as usual & Leonard went to work - Ben helping Carl again today - I wrote a big letter to Sister Margaretta this a.m. & this P.M. - I did the washing - hung most of them out, as it was a pretty good day - Pat went to a dance. Len went practicing, then brought her home -

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 9, 1952 Lyle came about 4:00 a.m. to tell us their baby girl was born about 2:30 a.m. We all went to Mass - High Mass - & lots to communion. Bens came this a.m. went downtown, left children here, also Lillian went downtown, left her 3 here -I got dinner, Bens here for dinner & supper - he worked this P.M., then went with Dad & Pat to St. Pats St. Marys ball game. St. Pats won 48-44 - I kept the children, also Pauls as they went to hospital to see Elizabeth and baby.

THURSDAY, JANUARY 10, 1952 We went to Mass as usual - Pat to work - I wrote a big letter to Laurence & also one to Bro. John. Leonard worked all day - I finished the ironing before supper. In the eve Leonard went to Marion with Carl - Glen - Kadera to Junior Farm Bureau meeting. Dad & I went to Novena - Pat went to hospital, we did too after Novena - saw Eliz and baby girl.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 11, 1952 We went to Mass as usual. I talked with Louise & Frances on phone - wrote letter to Ann - didn't feel too good but kept going - Leonard drove for the boys going to Waterloo to play O.L.V.A. - they won by 4 points - roads were good - not too cold - and moon was bright. Ben & Joann went to see Eliz at the hospital - Lyle brought his children out for the eve while they went to the hospital.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 12, 1952 We went to Mass as usual & Gene, Tommy & Ronny - I had a busy day cleaning up the house - made & canned 6 qt. mince meat, made 6 pies - 2 cakes - Dad took Lillian downtown in the morning - Leonard didn't work today or yesterday. Maurice came home by supper time - Pat went to show with Johnie -they brought her home.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 13, 1952 Dad & I - Leonard went with Maurice to 7:30 Mass - it was men's Sunday - Leonard helped serve Mass as no one was there to serve - then a little Rocca boy came & helped - Lyle & family were here for dinner - Ben's family came over in the P.M. and were here for supper & also Lyle & family - no one extra here in the eve but Ronny - Gene went to practice in P.M. - Pat & Roseann, Marilyn went roller skating - Pat & Gene went in the eve - Leonard went to Cosgrove - home in good time - Bobby, Davy & Johnie F. stayed all night.

MONDAY, JANUARY 14, 1952 I got up 20 min of 6:00 A.M. and got Leonard's breakfast ready as this was the day he has to go to Des Moines for physical - had to be at the court house at 6:30 A.M. Dad & Pat went to Mass also Gene & the boys. Gene served, Lillian came over & stayed with the little Frantz boys - while we went to Mass - Elizabeth is having her operation on varicose veins today - got along fairly good - Lyle came out at noon - had dinner with us, then took the boys home - Dad & I went downtown, took Ben to get his car - I got Gene a coat - but too small - also got plastic for a chair. Len got home safely - doesn't think he passed.


TUESDAY, JANUARY 15, 1952 We went to Mass - High Mass for Rocca's today. talked with Mrs. & the boys Eddie & Joe who are leaving tomorrow for the service - pretty nice day - I washed - quite a large one -Dad went to a sale with Carl - In the P.M. Gene took me downtown - also Lillian & Phyllis, we exchanged Gene's coat -got the money back & bought him another one that fits & also looks good - Ben's over for a while this eve - stopped in on way home from town - we played dominoes.

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 16, 1952 We went to Mass as usual, Requiem Mass today - children went to school, to be there at 9:30 a.m. exams again today - I was awfully tired today after my big washing - Pat home this P.M. she studied, washed her hair & ironed some - Dad started fixing our red chair, lots of work - In the eve Pat went to class, then Len got her & they went skating. Gene went to practice - Bens went to Eds. Pauls over here a while.

THURSDAY, JANUARY 17, 1951 We all went to Mass - Dad & I & Len & Pat to 7:30 a.m. Gene & the boys went to 8:00 a.m. - Mass for Msgr. Shulte. Pat home again this P.M. and cleaned the front room, took down the Christmas tree & decorations & packed them up - Dad & I went to Novena in P.M. Len working at church today, washing the walls in the sacristy - In the eve Len took some of the bball boys to play in tournament at Muscatine. Pat went with bunch to C.R. to basketball game. St. Marys got beat in the tournament in Muscatine 63-43.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 18, 1952 We all went to Mass - then Leonard went to work for Msgr. Dad tinkered around as usual - I wrote to Elizabeth, then worked with the butter & ironed, finally got through with the ironing just before I eat supper - Leonard drove the Nash & took basketball boys to Cedar Rapids to play St. Pats - they got befit 69-63. St. Marys reserves won 45-40 - Pat home this eve - no company -

SATURDAY, JANUARY 19, 1952 We all went to Mass - and Len didn't work today - Dad took Lillian & Ben downtown this a.m. - roads muddy so he didn't want to drive out - I baked 3 cakes - did some cleaning in kitchen, Gene helped some in the other rooms - In the P.M. -Dad & I went to confession - Gert & Nick came, they went downtown to church & conf.. also got Pat & took her - Pat to show this eve with Joanie. Gert & Nick & Moe went to the Iowa-Minn. game, Iowa won - I made a sausage waffle supper for my guests.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 20, 1952 Dad & I & Moe & Len went to 7:30 Mass - Pat & Gene, Ronny & Tommy went to 9:00 with Bens - Ed sick - Mary & the kids came to Mass alone - then later Dad & I & Gene, also Maurice went up there for Eds birthday dinner. Pat stayed home & cleaned up the house for Leonards company - Kenny K - We got home in good time & helped her. In the eve Dad & I & Bens went to Lyles.

MONDAY, JANUARY 21, 1952 We went to Mass as usual, Leonard too - he is still working for Msgr. I sort of rested today. Bens went to town, left the boys here, then they stayed for dinner. Cold, sort of stormy day - Len had a basketball game. Pat went to class -then to his game. Gene also went, Len made 24 pts. I am sort of nervous tonight.


TUESDAY, JANUARY 22, 1952 We went to Mass - very icy today - Pat & I had to push the car to get out to the road - so we were late for Mass - Ben came over this a.m. Dad slipped on the ice - hurt his leg & hip - so feels pretty well banged up - a pretty stormy cold day - Had letter from Ann - a fresh cow.

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 23, 1952 We went to Mass - Dad didn't go - on account of his sore leg - Leonard drove our car - Ben's came over before noon, then right after dinner they drove the Nash & took me downtown. I went to the hospital to see Marge B - but she was gone -we shopped downtown for a while & they stayed for supper, watched Arthur Godfrey's ice skating party. Pat had eyes tested today, needs new glasses for her work -

THURSDAY, JANUARY 24, 1952 We went to Mass - Dad went along today - as he felt better -Lillian came over this P.M. and did the ironing for me -Bens came over & Ben & Leonard butchered a hog for us -Joann brought some hand washing along - to do here - they all went home early. Dad & I went to Novena in the eve -Kept Elizabeth's 3 boys & baby while she went to the Dr. to get the stitches out of her legs.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 25, 1952 We went to Mass - then got at the butchering - Lillian & 3 girls came over to help - also Ben & family - We got along fine & got it all done up in packages & put in the deep freeze - in good time, cooked the head for the head cheese in the eve - Ben & Joann went to a show - Pauls over here for a while -

SATURDAY, JANUARY 26, 1952 We went to Mass - I sure don't feel very good today - pretty hard to get my work done, got the churning done - Dad & Lillian went downtown, got the groceries - I lay down a couple of times in the forenoon - Bens came & made a quick trip downtown - Ben & the boys sawed him some wood in the P.M. & he had to haul some in - Lillian came over & mopped kitchen & cleaned bathroom -

SUNDAY, JANUARY 27, 1952 A real nice day - a little chilly - Maurice, Dad & I & Leonard went to 7:30 Mass - the others to 9:00 & took Bens & Ronny & Tommy along - Bens here for breakfast. Reuben & Myrtle surprised us by coming up for dinner - we enjoyed them very much - I feel some better - Pat helped get dinner in P.M. We took them over to see Carl & Louise's new house - Bens came to see them & stayed for supper - We played dominoes.

MONDAY, JANUARY 28, 1952 We all went to Mass but Leonard, he went down to see Kenny Kabela leave for the army - Ben hauled in his wood today - I sort of rested & got things straightened up some - still awfully tired - from my weak spells - over the week end -

TUESDAY, JANUARY 29, 1952 We went to Mass as usual - I baked cupcakes - and did up the work - we decided to go to Aunt Anna's - Dad & Ben went to a sale - south of Nichols - then came back there for dinner - We had a good visit - got home in good time - stopped in la City to shop a little on the way home.

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 30, 1952 We went to Mass as usual - Ed & Mary came. Ed took Dad along with him down to his farm - and Mary & I went over and helped Lillian put her quilt in frames for quilting. In the P.M. I fixed some of Pats clothes to get them ready to take to the cleaners - In the eve we went to bball game -St. Marys won 68-49 St. Marys Waterloo.

THURSDAY, JANUARY 31, 1952 Very lovely day, heat record broken. We went to Mass - Len still washing walls at Sisters' convent - I wrote letter to Bro. John - then did the washing - got them all hung out in time for us to go to Novena services in P.M. - retreat for high school began today - all children at home tonight. Ben helped Carl today -

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 1952 We all went to Mass this morning - Pat & Len to communion before Mass. High Mass in honor of the Sacred Heart for all the school children & sang by all the children. Ben & Joann & 3 boys went downtown, left Benny & Stevie here. Ben came over & cut wood awhile - they stayed for dinner & went down to see about his job - I was up quite late & worried.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 2, 1952 We went to Mass - I brought home my 2 blessed candles - Dad & Lillian went to town, also Leonard & Gene - I got churning done & butter mixed - baked 2 cakes, mopped floors, then Dad & I went to confession, shopped a little - Bens came over for a waffle supper - then went down to confession - Maurice didn't come home - Pat went to a dance in Cedar Rapids - We played dominoes in eve -

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 1952 Len went to 6:00 Mass - then went to Davenport to spend the day with Gordon. SM went with him - Dad & I went to 7:30 Mass Women's Sunday. Gene & Pat went with Ben's to 9:00 Mass -Bens stayed all day for breakfast, dinner & supper - In the P.M. Louise came out for the eggs - and Geralds came out for a short visit - Pat went out this eve - Len got home safely. Big celebration at Jenns for their 20th anniversary.

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 1952 Dad & I & Pat & Gene & the little boys went to 7:30 Mass -We worked around this a.m., cleaned up house - I wrote to Minnie, also sent congrat card to Eliz & Lyle & sent for planter. In the P.M. I went over to Lillians & quilted a while. In the eve Dad & I was alone, Paul & Lillian came over for a bit - Pat went to her class, then to Lens ball game - Gene went to practice & then to Lens ball game.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 1952 We went to Mass - then I got the washing started in the forenoon - got done around 3:00 o'clock - Larews men out to trade us a new washing machine for our old one - so we had to pay $159.35 besides our machine - the new Easy are $219.00 now - In the eve Bens came over for a while - Pat & Len & Gene went to Lens ball game. Len made 20 pts. Ben started to work at Vets' hospital - Dad not feeling very good.

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 1952 We went to Mass as usual. I got the clothes ready to iron -Dad & Lillian went downtown in the a.m. - Pat came home for dinner - home in the P.M. ironed some, studied & went to class at 6:00 P.M. I got a little ironing done, our new Easy Spin & Rinse washing machine was delivered. In the eve we went to baseball game, it sure was good - St. Mary's beat Muscatine 2 points - reserves beat 2 pts. 55-53.

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 1952 We went to Mass - got clothes at cleaners - also took some more in - I wrote a letter to Bro. John, Gertrude & card to Myrtle. In the P.M. I ironed & then Dad & I went to Novena - I ironed more in the eve and finished it - Pat & Leonard went to Marion for Junior Farm Bureau meeting - Lyles came & went to Texaco meeting & left Rita & Johnie here - Pauls also over for a while.


FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 1952 We went to Mass, then after breakfast I worked around with the plants and also did a good cleaning job in the utility room, getting ready to put my new wash machine in there. In the eve Pat & Len stayed home - Gene went to practice. I got towels ready to hem for Sister. Len home today (sick).

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 1952 We went to Mass - a very busy day again - Dad & Gene helped Ben saw wood - Len took Lillian downtown - I hemmed the tea towels for Sister M. and got them ready to mail so Leonard took them down - He also went down in the P.M., waited for Pat. I got things pretty well cleaned up & mending mostly done, nothing baked. Bens & Joanie Klein here for supper.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 1952 Men's Holy Name Sunday - Dad, Len, Maurice, Ben & Paul all went to communion with the men & stayed for the breakfast -Gene came down for Lillian, Joann & I & then took Pat & Ronny & Tommy to 9:00 Mass - In the P.M. Maurice took Ben & Joann to Uncle Reubens & then took them down to see Eds place for a little fresh air & a ride. Reuben a little better but still very poorly. Dad took Pat down to church to play the organ for the Boy Scouts' program - Leonard took baseball boys to Burlington for game - both teams got beat by Burlington. Lyles here in eve. Bens here for dinner & supper. Len, Pat & Gene went skating - home in good time -

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 1952 We went to Mass - Leonard went back to work at the Sisters', washing walls etc. I worked around cleaning up some and getting ready to go to get my permanent. Dad took Joann & baby out to Oxford to Dr - Gene had to go to practice. In the eve Pat went to her class and I went along at 6:00 and got a permanent at Brimtons - then we went to Bessies to wait for Gene.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 1952 We went to Mass - and right after breakfast went with Bernice & Lillian to Eds - help dress 18 hens - 12 for Bernice, 6 for Mary - then in the P.M. I mended some for Mary. When we got home got the sad news that they had taken Reuben to hospital & he was getting oxygen - called down to the house about 10:15 - he had a pretty bad spell that night. Watching - Len & Pat & Gene to Lens game.

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 1952 We went to Mass - Dad took the car down and had them work on it - then Dad & I & Bessie went down to see Reuben at the hospital, some better but still taking oxygen - We only visited him about 30 minutes - came home about 5:00 P.M. -then had supper got ready & went to the bball game. St. Marys beat St. Pats 50-46. Pat & Joanie went with Len to dance at Cosgrove after game. I washed this a.m. Lillian hung up the clothes for me. Snowed hard tonight, roads slippery.

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 14, 1952 We went to Mass - Pat had to go to work early, so couldn't go - a very busy day for her at the florists - I just worked around here - got a sick card ready for Reuben, also some prayer cards to send along with it - In the P.M. Dad & I went to Novena - Dad went to a sale - got some cheap dishes & vacuum sweeper - In the eve Pat went to C.Y.O. Pauls here for a while - Len went out for Valentines day - Heard Reuben was some better & they took the oxygen away for a while. Pat, Len & Gene gave me a beautiful azalea plant for Valentines day.


FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 15, 1952 We went to Mass, Pat had to go to work at 7:00 so rode down with Paul. School kids have free day for beating St. Pats. I wrote letter to Bro. John, sent cards to Wilma & Geralds -also birthday card to Veatress - In the eve Lyles came up for a while - Lyle took Pat down to the square dance put on by the 4H club. Leonard & Gene went to Cedar Rapids to basketball game. St. Marys lost to I.C.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 16, 1952 We got a call from Bessie before we went to Mass that Uncle Reuben was much worse - so left after breakfast, got down there around 11:00 A.M., he was much worse but still knew us - Veatress & Harold came later - We left around 2:00 P.M. as I had an appointment with the Dr for check up - Velva & Lee got to hospital about 4:00. Reuben died around 7:30 P.M.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 17, 1952 We all went to 7:30 Mass. Maurice came home - Dad & I & Gene were guests for the Sodality breakfast, sat with Gene at Mass - Patricia & Leonard helped serve - We got home in fairly good time - Lillian helped get the dinner - left early for Muscatine & went to the funeral parlor to be with Myrtle while she selected the casket & made funeral plans -then went out to the house a while - home about 6:00, then went down to funeral parlor for rosary for Mr. Benda. Gertrude & Jimmy stayed all night.

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 1952 We went to Mass & worked around this morn - then Dad & I went to the funeral of Mr. Benda at 2:00 P.M. - hurried home and got ready to go to the chili supper - Maurice came home for Reubens funeral so he took Gertrude & I down, we ate with Pat - then took her to school - Maurice then went down & took her to a show - Ben & Joann & I went down to Muscatine so Joann could see the body - Made chicken loaf for Myrtle, Louise sent a cake -

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 1952 We all went to Mass but Gertrude - then we spent the forenoon getting ready for the funeral and had an early lunch - Bens came over and Joann kept all the children here - Pauls, Eds (Allen), and. Jimmy. We got down in pretty good time, roads fair but some icy. Ed, Paul, Ben, Maurice, Leonard & Gerald were pallbearers. Funeral was at 2:00 P.M.

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 1952 We went to Mass - then hurried home & got ready to go to the sale - Joann & the children were here already to go along -Some of the roads were fairly icy - but we got there & back O.K. Snowed awful hard at times - It was a good sale, big crowd - Ben started at Moorhead and had to work overtime.

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 1952 We went to Mass - then I did part of the washing, and got through in fairly good time. I sent a card to Minnie, a birthday card to Harold, started a letter to Bro. John -then finished it when downtown after Novena - Dad & I went to Novena at 3:00, Pauls here in eve.

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 1952 We went to Mass - then I worked around this forenoon while Dad fixed up the pipes to the water boiler. In the P.M. - I did the rest of the washing, and got done rather late - In the eve Lyles came up & Gene took the girls to skating party - Len & Pat went to C.Y.O. party at school.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 1952 We went to Mass - I seemed to feel some better today -worked hard & long - cleaned up the floors in the forenoon & churned - In the P.M. went to Dr. B.P. 160 over 80, then came home, ironed, got supper - watched Iowa - Illinois game on television (Iowa lost ), after that I baked 2 cakes & worked the butter & mended some sox. Joanns birthday.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 1952 Dad & I & Maurice went to 7:30 Mass - had a good breakfast -Len, Pat & Gene to 9:00 - Eds & Pauls here after Mass - Bens went to 10:15 Mass, left the children here - they stayed for dinner & supper - Joanns birthday dinner, chicken & strawberry short cake - otherwise, day was fairly quiet around here - PQt & Gene went skating in eve.

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 1952 We went to Mass as usual - High Mass sang by 7th & 8th grades - Dad worked on his income tax figures & sent money for pan handles. In the eve I went to beauty parlor, had my hair washed & set - Dad came after me - Gene went to box social - Pat to school - then to Farm Bureau party. Leonard went to party -

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 1952 We went to Mass - I wrote cards to Wilma & Myrtle - Dad brought Joann & the children out before it thawed too much and after dinner took Joann, Mickey & Benny to the Dr. Mick has ear infection, Benny bad cold - I washed from a little before noon & all afternoon - Bens stayed for supper. Pat & Len & Gene went to Junior Farm Bureau bball game - then went skating.

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 1952 Ash Wed. We all went to Mass this morning - then after breakfast I wrote a letter to Ann - Pat at home this P.M. -cleaned the bathroom - and her room some - We went to devotions in eve, as Dad went to a sale today - Pat didn't get to go to church this eve - as she had to baby sit at Engels - I ironed the starched clothes.

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 1952 We went to Mass as usual - I did some more washing today, a big basket full of clothes. Cleaned my floors - baked cake & got a good supper for Eds - as I had them all here for supper before they move. In the eve Pauls all came over, also Lyle's family. Pat & Gene & Leonard all at home tonight -

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 29, 1952 We All went to Mass - when we got home - Joann & the children were here - she helped me get all my ironing done this a.m. We had early supper so she & Ben could go shopping before devotions - they & Pauls both went. Dad & I went in the P.M. Pat & Gene went to Stations also this eve -

SATURDAY, MARCH 1, 1952 We all went to Mass - My knees sure hurting me today. I took care of Paul's children, all but Ronny - He & Lillian went to help Eds move - Dad & Ben went up in the truck & got Ben's stove. Ben's came in the P.M. & went to shop & confession, stayed for supper, then Ben, Joann & Mickey went to a show - Pauls & 4 children here for supper - 17 in all -I baked a cake after supper -

SUNDAY, MARCH 2, 1952 Snowed in the night - Dad & I & Leonard went to 7:30 Mass -At & Gene to 9:00. Bens went to 6:00. A bad snowy day -Pauls came over a while in the P.M. & then we all went to devotions Cat 4:00 P.M. Pat & Gene went skating - Wilma's came in the eve. Homer Halls brought Richard here about 10:00 A.M.

MONDAY, MARCH 3, 1952 We went to Mass as usual - plenty of snow. Leonard intended to go & then go to work - but since Ben lost his keys to his car - Len took him to work & then to work himself. Started snowing hard this P.M. and all the family stayed home - I washed today & dried them inside. Edwards here this P.M. to settle up.

TUESDAY, MARCH 4, 1952 We went to Mass - lots of snow, Dad managed to drive out -Gene didn't get started until late - so didn't get to Mass -Richard & the boys went to 8:00 o clock Mass then - I wrote some thank you letters. And in the P.M. I did all the ironing but good shirts & blouse, slip, scarf & brassieres I left for Pat to do tomorrow - we were over to Pauls for Tommy's birthday supper. Dad worked the butter for me - Ben hauled his wood in today.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 5, 1952 We went to Mass - Gene's car wouldn't start - so all of them went with us - got there on time too - wrote to Elizabeth's & Maurice - Ben & Mickey over today, Ben helping Dad lay the new oak floor in our bedroom - In the P.M. Pat & I went to devotions - Dad went downtown on business - after Novena I went to Lenock & Cilek to buy potty for Joann -

THURSDAY, MARCH 6, 1952 We went to Mass as usual. Leonard sick today, went down to the Dr. & got a shot. Ben over early to help with the floor - later in the forenoon he brought the family over-in the trailer - they spent the rest of the day here - after dinner Dad took Lillian & Joann downtown shopping & at 3:00 I went down to get my hair fixed. Bens stayed for supper. Len, Pat & Gene & Richard went to baseball game at W. Branch.

FRIDAY, MARCH 7, 1952 Leonard home again today, getting better. We all went to Mass for First Friday - The school children sang the High Mass, very lovely indeed. Ben had to work today - so no help from him - Dad didn't do anything either - but went to a sale - then came back in time for us to go to Stations -Bens came over in the trailer & went to Stations. Pauls also went & left children here - Lewis Smith family visited us this eve - Gordon Secrest came out from Davenport for supper - Moe also came home - Len, Moe & Gordon went to. baseball game.


SATURDAY, MARCH 8, 1952 We all 6 of us went to Mass - the 7:30 Mass was for my brother Reuben - all of Eds - Ben - Paul, Ronny, Lillian, Eliz, Lyle, Marilyn & Joe - also Louise, Charles, a very good turn out considering the weather - Ben & Eds were here for dinner, Eds, Ben & Dad went downtown in a.m. In the P.M. I went to the Dr. & we bought the groceries. Ben went down for his car - kept Pauls children in the eve while they went to a show - up late tonight.

SUNDAY, MARCH 9, 1952 Dad & I & Maurice went to 7:30 Mass - Holy Name Communion Sunday - Pat stayed all night at Echricks - Gene & Len went to 9:00 Mass C.Y.O. Communion Sunday - No company, just lunched for dinner - had my supper already to serve when we left for devotions in the P.M. then Eds came for supper, brought Richard, a little before 5:00 P.M. - they were here for the evening -

MONDAY, MARCH 10, 1952 All went to Mass - then I did the washing today, a pretty good sized wash, dried them in the bedroom - as floor isn't finished yet & we still have bed in the front room. A rainy morning. Ben didn't get to work today - but Leonard got started back at the convent & washed 3 rooms. Pat went to class after work & then fixed out her income tax report. Started on my diet - Lyles here in eve - all but Roseann. Len went to Yoders & fixed out his income tax report -

TUESDAY, MARCH 11, 1952 We all went to Mass - I wrote a letter to Myrtle. Joann wanted to come over as it was a pretty good day - so Dad brought her & the children out with the tractor & trailer -She helped me do the ironing. We had a good beef steak supper - Len & Pat & Gene & Richard went to ball game - then Pat went to C.Y.O. meeting.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 12, 1952 We all went to Mass = after breakfast Dad took the tractor down - then Leonard went down & started dealing for his car, so traded the Chevy off for 1950 2 door Nash, Very nice & a good trade. I wrote letter to send for booklets - also Wilma & Minnie - Pat home in P.M. - cleaned up house some -I started work on my good bed spread - Len, Dad & I & Pat went to Novena in Lens new car - Pat went to class first -Pauls over to see television - Lost one of our feeder calves

THURSDAY, MARCH 13, 1952 We all went to Mass. Dad went down & got the tractor - then hauled water over to Bens - and also hauled out the dead calf. I wrote letter to Bro. John - send order for Craftsman paper for Dad & also ordered a Holy Hour book -Leonard went out in his new car tonight - I went to C.Y.O. meeting - Pat also went only 12 members there. Louises - Wilmas & Pauls here in eve -

FRIDAY, MARCH 14, 1952 We all went to Mass - I worked around at different things -Dad went to a sale, didn't get home in time for us to go to Stations, so we went in the eve. Pauls children here - then Pauls came later, also Gerald & Pauline. Pat & Len out again -


SATURDAY, MARCH 15, 1952 We all went to Mass - after breakfast Ben's came over - the men worked at the wood in the a.m. and then went to town just before dinner. Dad & I went in the P.M. and got groceries - clothes at cleaners & to confession - Ben & Joann went to show in the eve - Maurice came home rather late from work -

SUNDAY, MARCH 16, 1952 Dad & & & Maurice went to 7:30 Mass - Len, Pat, Gene, Ben Joann & Mickey to 9:00 Mass. We had a fairly good dinner then Ben, Joann, Benny, Dad & I went to Myrtle's, took the pulley back - got our cake pan. We got home in time, took Gene, to go to the Stations - then home and to go to a good supper Pat had gotten ready. Eds brought Richard up after supper -

MONDAY, MARCH 17, 1952 We all went to Mass, sort of tired today - got Novena mail ready - and sent ? in for Easter cards. In the P.M. I worked around - got fairly early supper and went down to hairdressers while Pat went to class - came home with Pauls, shopped a little first. Lyles were here.

TUESDAY, MARCH 18, 1952 We all went to Mass, stopped for bread etc. etc. - I washed today - then Lillian came over, was here for dinner, she waxed my bedroom floor - and cleaned the bedroom - so we got the furniture back in & slept in there - got my clothes finished, putting on the racks about 11:00 P.M.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 19, 1952 We all went to Mass - all children home for dinner - z day off school. Gene helping Len in the P.M. down at the convent - Dad went to a sale - I made fruit salad & cake for Pat's birthday supper - Pauls all came over and we had a waffle sausage supper - Pat, Gene & Dick went skating.

THURSDAY, MARCH 20, 1952 We all went to Mass - First day of spring - Louise came out today and Lillian came over & gave her a permanent so I had Louise, Lillian & 3 kiddies for dinner besides Dad & Len, they helped a little with the ironing & by sticking at it I managed to get it all done. Pauls over this eve - all the children at home & went to bed early -

FRIDAY, MARCH 21, 1952 We all went to Mass - I wrote to Bro. John worked around and got the clothes put away - made the Holy Hour before supper - Pauls over in the evening to see television -


SATURDAY, MARCH 22, 1952 We all went to Mass - Dad went out to Frytown to a sale -after he got back he took Joann, Bennie, Joey & Kenny to Oxford to the Dr. Kenny has bad throat, Benny the flu - Ben & Joann got their medicine & stayed for supper then went home - Eds came after Richard & took us to the Stations.

SUNDAY, MARCH 23, 1952 Dad & I & Moe went to 7:30 Mass, the others to 9:00. Lyles brought food & came for dinner. (Continue from SAT): a miserable rainy morning - Ben had to work a couple of hours - Lillian & I went downtown with Dad, got clothes from the cleaners etc - busy all day - early supper so Leonard could get a good early start to ball game. Davenport won the tournament.

MONDAY, MARCH 24, 1952 We all went to Mass & Holy Communion - a little better weather. I washed, Lillian hung most of the clothes out for me - I was very very tired - Pat went to class - Richard went to see the home tournament. Leonard kept score - Gene played, made 11 pts - all went out to skating rink a while -

TUESDAY, MARCH 25, 1952 We all went to Mass - I got mail ready to send for seeds & catalogues but missed the mail man. In the P.M. Lillian went downtown with Leonard - came home with the school kids, the 3 little folks stayed here - I ironed all P.M. - got done - Pat helped do some hand ironing - all gone skating tonight.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 26, 1952 We all went to Mass - I finished getting my mail ready - Pat came home at noon, then she & I went downtown with Leonard -to shop for her spring coat & Easter bonnet - I also got a hat - brown this time. We went to Novena - Dad came down & got us - she didn't go to class this eve - all the family home .

THURSDAY, MARCH 27, 1952 We all went to Mass - and to communion - Sort of a damp day - Lillian came over and cut out my domino dress & sewed it about all up - but hand work - Pauls over this eve to watch television - so were up rather late.

FRIDAY, MARCH 28, 1952 We all went to Mass. Dad worked around at fixing his plow -We went to the Stations in the P.M. Pat & Gene went skating in the eve. Eds came after Richard - Pauls went to Clems -Bens didn't get out.

SATURDAY, MARCH 29, 1952 We all went to Mass as usual - Ben & Gene went out to Carls to help clean up - Dad went over & got Joann & family - they stayed all day for dinner & supper, took the boys to get their hair cut in the eve - Dad & I went to confession in the P.M. & got clothes at cleaners -

SUNDAY, MARCH 30, 1952 We went to 7:30 Mass with Pauls - Dad, Moe, & Len went to St. Thomas More for K.C. Mass & communion & breakfast at club. Pat & Gene went to 9:00 - Dad & I went to Wilmas for dinner, took Bessie along - she also had the Dexters - when we got home Nicks were here with 2 of their friends so they stayed for supper also. Bens were here in eve - Lyles & Carls came. Pat & Gene went skating with kids from Walker -

MONDAY, MARCH 31, 1952 All went to Mass as usual - rained in night so Dad couldn't sow oats, he worked around at machinery - I cleaned up around - worked on bed spread in P.M., mended in eve - All to bed early but Pat went to class - then to high school plays so I was up rather late too. Spring basketball practice begins. Ben & Joann, Kenny went downtown this eve - Joann got spring coat.
