SATURDAY, JULY 1,1950- We went to Mass. Dad took us today and started going to Mass. Late in the P.M. Dad & I went to Confession. Pat went to town with Leonard after the big rain. It rained very hard and lights went out at 7:00 came on again about 11:00. Pauls & Bens both got storm and we had 17 in our house over night. Gert & Nick came and slept in the Nash. There was very bad storms and lots of high water.
SUNDAY, JULY 2, 1950- We all got to Mass sometime or other. We had 17 in the house over night & Nick & Gert in the car. Gerald and Pauline in their new house so in all we had 21 for breakfast. Joann & Lillian were very good help with the cooking all day so helped me a lot. I sure didn't feel good, but Dad & I, Gert & Nick went to Eliz for Dinner. In the P.M. we drove around in their new Plymouth to see the storm damage. Came home. All the families came for the 4th of July Celebration, 45 of us now, 3 of Dohress came, 5 of Ray Wiescamps & 3 neighbors making 58 in all.

TUESDAY, JULY 4, 1950- Was home not feeling to good. Kids went to the park in the eve. Lyles here

SATURDAY, JULY 8, 1950- No entry.
SUNDAY, JULY 9, 1950- Dad & I & Moe, Len & Gene went to 7:30 Mass as Len had to serve. Eds took Pat. Then they were here for dinner. Mary brought chicken, potatoes & cake & we had a very good dinner. Bens were over in the P.M. with their new car & he washed & shined it. They were also here for supper. Wilma's also came. Betty here for dinner & all night.
MONDAY, JULY 10, 1950- We went to Mass, Betty too. We didn't wash, but canned peas today for the deep freeze. Maurice, Pat & Gene picked them. We all Hulled them, even Mulherin's kids a little, also Joann. We got 20 pints. In the eve Lyles came up for a little while. Dr. came, my b.p. down to 175. Dad's 150. Dale Frantz married today.
TUESDAY, JULY 11,1950- We went to Mass. Pat played this week. No help singing. Didn't wash as expected, electricity to be shut off. Did one thing and another around here instead. Ben had to go to be initiated in Labor Union so Joann went to a show & left the children here. They were good. I felt fairly good today.
WEDNESDAY, JULY 12, 1950- We went to Mass, another Requiem today. Jean Klein came & helped sing. Then we did the washing- it was a big one - got done right after noon. Before we got any dry it started to rain and rained really hard, over 2in. rain. We had to put them on the racks overnite. Eds came down for the evening and told us they were allowed $3180.00 damage to their crops by hail.
THURSDAY, JULY 13, 1950- We all went to Mass as usual. I sure didn't feel very good again today - so laid down awhile after breakfast & slept. When I awoke Mary was here helping Pat in the kitchen as Ed came down to help work and all the family came too, but Joyce who is at Lyles this week. May helped hang out the clothes & iron & mend today - big help - Louise also came out & helped mend for awhile. we kept Ben's children in the eve.
FRIDAY, JULY 14, 1950- We all went to Mass as usual. After breakfast I wrote to Myrtle, Minnie & Frances (Larry's) and card to Ann. Also talked to Aunt Frances on the phone - then helped get dinner. Ed came and helped again this afternoon. Was here for dinner. Maurice & Gene ground feed. Sort of quiet evening and Pat & Leonard both out tonight. Pat baby sitting.
SATURDAY, JULY 15, 1950- We went to Mass. Low Mass today but Pat stayed down as she had to play for Mary Langenburg & Clarence Pogenpohl's Wedding. Se didn't get home until after 11:00 but Joann came over with Ben as Ben & Ed helped us all day on digging for the sewer. So Joann helped me good with dishes & the dinner. Really was tired in the eve. They went to town - Dad & I & Pat & Gene went to confession about 5:15. Pauls & Eds here in the evening. Pat worked again.
SUNDAY, JULY 16, 1950- Well it rained in the night and this morn. Sodality Sunday. Leonard had to serve. Gene & Pat went to 9:00 Mass. Dad & I & Moe & Pauls all went to 7:30. Bens had trouble getting out so went to St. Pats to a later Mass. Bens & Dad & I & Moe & Gene went to Lake McBride for a picnic dinner & the boys went out in a boat fishing for awhile. We had a good time. We had Les for supper so had to get a fresh meal. Eds came in the eve.
MONDAY, JULY 17, 1950- We went to Mass first. Another rainy morning. Ben took Leonard's car today. Ed came before noon - then it cleared away they decided to work some more at the sewer. We did the washing in the P.M. - they dried pretty well. Joann did hers in the evening. Lyles came in the eve. Dr. also came out. My Blood Pressure 180, Dad's 150. I still have to take pills but he doesn't. Very tired tonight.
TUESDAY, JULY 18, 1950- We went to Mass. Ed didn't come back today as he stayed home and plowed his soy beans. We got part of the ironing done. Planned to go to Eds tomorrow to help dress chickens. Pauls & Eds both here in the eve.
WEDNSDAY, JULY 19, 1950- We went to Mass. It was a rainy morning. After Mass we went after Louise & Charles to go along with us - so we went after breakfast - didn't get there until 9:45 or later but we got along fine - all the little boys helped good and the men picked them. We did 35, got done around 3:00 P.M. Pauline did her washing & ironing here today. Bens here for dinner & supper, went to Oxford.
THURSDAY, JULY 20, 1950- My Birthday. Eds here, helped work. Rueben Myrtle too. Lyles & Wilmas in eve.
FRIDAY, JULY 21, 1950- Man came and started new road late in P.M. No company in eve.
SATURDAY, JULY 22, 1950- Man worked on road until he broke down. Finished lane in P.M. Pauls here in eve.
SUNDAY, JULY 23, 1950- Birthday dinner at Libbs. Hole in car top. Bens here in eve for supper and little while.
MONDAY, JULY 24, 1950- Pat hoed. Put beans in deep freeze.
TUESDAY, JULY 25, 1950- Canned 29 qt. beans - tired. Aunt Frances & Lois her also Pauls. Heard about Henry.
WEDNESDAY, JULY 26, 1950- Ben started work on dam. Washed. Pauline ironed. Joann canned beans. Eds & Lyles here in the eve.
THURSDAY, JULY 27, 1950- Wrote to Bro. John. Awful tired today but got rested. Eds & Carls here in eve also Bessie, V & H, Velva Lemoyne & Joan Rebreshmius?? Len joined the Farm Bureau.
FRIDAY, JULY 28, 1950- Dad & I went down town , put important papers in the bank. Got Nash over to have fixed. Louise took Dad & I to see Henry this P.M.
SATURDAY, JULY 29, 1950- Went to Mass. Pat had to play for a funeral so I didn't have much help to get ready for our trip until Ben came along & helped me. We left Carls just about 3 minutes to 1:00 P.M. - had a nice drive in afternoon - got to camp at Jefferson Mo. a little after 8:00 P.M. Got 2 single cabins.
SUNDAY, JULY 30, 1950- Had a good nights rest in cabin but woke up early. Carl went to 5:30 Mass then stayed with Charles while the rest of us went at 7:00. Got to Brinktown around 10:10 A.M. Went to Wod for dinner. Louise & Carl & Charles to Hilda's. Nice day visiting.
MONDAY, JULY 30, 1950- Had a good nights rest. Raining this morning - had a good breakfast - and fried a chicken - got started for home around 10:10 A.M. Ate our dinner in a park at Jefferson City & our supper in a park at Fairfield. Arrived home around 8:40 P.M.
TUESDAY, AUGUST 1, 1950- We went to Mass. Dad & I both tired out after our trip.
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 2, 1950- We went to Mass as usual. Washed today, a very large one.
THURSDAY, AUGUST 3, 1950- We went to Mass.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 4, 1950- Went to Mass.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 5, 1950- Went to Mass. Gert & Nick & Moe got home after supper. Pat baby sitting tonight.
SUNDAY, AUGUST 6, 1950- We went to 7:30 Mass - Ladies Sunday - Gert & Nick stayed over today. Ed & Mary took Dad & I to Nichols to the Social this eve in their new car.
MONDAY, AUGUST 7, 1950- We went to Mass. Gert & Nick left for home around 10:00 A.M. Dad & I went to Dr. in P.M. My Blood Pressure 140 over 86. Dad's 140 over 75.
TUESDAY, AUGUST 8, 1950- We went to Mass. Washed today.
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 9, 1950- We went to Mass. Paul's baby boy born today around 12:30. Weighed 5lb. 14oz. Paul came out for dinner after it was all over.
THURSDAY, AUGUST 10, 1950- Went to Mass FRIDAY, AUGUST 11. 1950- We went to Mass.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 12, 1950- We went to Mass. Leonard also went as he didn't have work. Bens here for supper & went to show in eve. We kept the children. They went to Oxford in the P.M.. Dad & I went to Confession and to the grocery store.
SUNDAY, AUGUST 13, 1950- Went to 7:30 Mass, all but Pat, she went to 9:00 with eds. Marlene, Paul & children were here for dinner & supper. Bens here for breakfast. Wilmas here in P.M. Lyles & Eds & Bens here in the eve. Ed took Lyle, Ben & Maurice for a long ride. Dad & I went to Church 3 times today to say rosary.
MONDAY, AUGUST 14, 1950- Went to Mass. Pat played for Joan Knodel. Then we washed. Joann came over and helped can apples. Lyle's, Ben's and Paul's children here in the eve. Still chilly weather.
TUESDAY, AUGUST 15, 1950- Holy Day. Leonard & Gene served 6:00 Mass, Maurice also went as he had to go to Dubuque to get the Sisters. Dad & I & Pat & Marilyn Mullherin went to 8:00 Mass. Pauls brought the new baby out, had him baptized in P.M. We had them all here for dinner also Eds, Marlene, Joann & children. Maurice took Pat & Gene to the Cedar Rapids Fair in the eve. Dad & I alone.
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 16, 1950- We went to Mass. Joann came over to do her washing. Eds came early to get his car greased & Mary get her hair set. So it's a busy day getting ready for our trip to Colorado.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 25, 1950- No entry.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 26, 1950- We stayed all night at Chamberlin S Dakota. Got up a little after 4:00 and left the cabin at 5:20. Drove until around 11:05 and stopped at West Bend, Iowa to see the Grotto. Left there around 12:30 arriving home about 5:35. A very lovely trip. Found everyone O.K. Helped get supper for us all. Then with every thing to do - didn't get to bed until late after Pat left for St. Paul for her weeks trip.
SUNDAY, AUGUST 27, 1950- We went to 7:30 Mass. Gene had to serve. Bens went to 9:00. Eds to 10:15. Pauls came out after 9:00 & Ben hauled some lumber over to his place for him & then all of them were here for dinner, Eds too. In the P.M. Eds went to Lyles after Joyce. Clarences came out as they were going to be sponsors for the new baby, Bernard Eugene, who was baptized at 2:30 by Father Meyers. Dad & I went along. It rained hard while we were in Church so Bens had to stay all night.
MONDAY, AUGUST 28, 1950- We went to Mass - then I did sort of a washing for Bens & a few clothes for ourselves as the drier was broken - so we rinsed them & rung them out by hand at the sink. Sort of a rainy like day but Ben got to work. Leonard left early this morn for a trip to the State Fair with Kenny Kabela. I got up about 4:15 to call him and help him get off. Bens stayed all night again.
TUESDAY, AUGUST 29, 1950- We went to Mass - Then Maurice & Gene went home. Dad & I ate a lunch, then went on to Barney Milders for the funeral of John Linderman. We drove on to Church for the Funeral Mass - Then after that we went to Ann & Henry's to see them, visited a while , then came home. It was drizzling weather. Joann was working at the apples and we got 16 qts canned that P.M.. Leonard got home safely in good time and Bens even went home.
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 30, 1950- We went to Mass as usual. I wrote letters this morning and Maurices & Gene helped clean up the house. I worked hard but didn't get done. Dad & I & Gene went to Pauls for supper. Mae and Leonard had supper at home. No company. we got home in good time.
THURSDAY, AUGUST 31, 1950- Went to Mass and then did more cleaning today. So got things in better shape again. We went to Novena in the evening. Lyles & Bens here in the eve to see the wrestling matches.
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 1, 1950- Mass as usual. I had Gene pick all the tomatoes so I could can soup. Then Louise came out for dinner and helped me out. I got three qts, good soup, canned. First Friday today. Eds in tonight & took Dad & I with them down town so we bought our groceries.
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 1950- Mass as usual and then lots of cleaning. Gene helped pretty good in the morning. We go our washing machine back so I washed up quite a few things. I also got things ready for the Milder reunion. So it was a long long hard day.
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 1950- We all went to 7:30 Mass but Pat, she went at 9:00 with Eds. We kept Alan & Ben's children, all of Paul's except Ronnie. We went to Milder reunion today. 74 present. Had a very good time, good eats,good visiting. It was held at Weed Park in Muscatine. After that Gerald, Pauline, Dad & I, Pat, Moe, Len went to Uncle Ruebens & stayed there for supper, had a very nice time there visiting & showing them the folders from our trip.
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 1950- We all went to Mass. Labor day & Leonard wasn't working. Had a big dinner, did a big big washing, was pretty tired. Rested a while in the P.M.. Leonard, Gene, Maurice & Ben went fishing in the P.M. In the eve, Wilmas came for a while, also Bens and Lyles. In the forenoon Leonard & Maurice helped Dad get the road graded.
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 1950- We went to Mass and Pat & Gene came home for breakfast, the Dad took them back for their first day of school which was only an hour or so. I got a big dinner for the movers. Gerald & Pauline, Dad & Moe & Pat helped. Went over in the P.M. to their new place. Kenny Kabela took his truck to move them & Mr. Doher also helped. In the eve Eds and Pauls came to spend the eve. Ben came for groceries. Made my Holy Hour.
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 1950- We went to Mass. Pat & Gene stayed for the forenoon of school then Dad got them. We were busy working with corn all day and Pat helped us in the P.M. Joann came over with the children and got a chicken and dressed it for Ben's birthday dinner tonight. He is 28 years old today. We finally finished corn. 35 qts canned, 15qts in deep freeze. Bens also Pauline & Gerald here tonight.
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 1950- Went to Mass. Wrote letters to Bro. John, Mrs. Wodahodsky, Gertrude birthday card & letter to Bessie & card to Myrtle. Then took care of Benny while Joann took the boys down for a hair cut. Louise came out, found out we had some Lima Beans ready to pick so she picked them & Pat canned up 6 qt to put in the deep freeze. I also canned 4 qt apple sauce. Eds here for a while in the eve. Ben stopped in from work.
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 1950- We went to two Masses today, at 7:30 & 8:00 for all the school children. Dad & Maurice graded some on the new road. Then Dad took Joann & Joey down to the Dr. as Joey had to have a shot. After getting stuck by a nail in his knee. I had them for dinner then they went home. Maurice helped me in the P.M. with apples sauce then Pat helped when she came home. I was terribly tired, got 34 qts. Eliz and family came in the eve, she helped finish.
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 1950- We went to Mass, Dad & I & Moe & Pat. Pat had to play. Gene stayed home & chored. We had a very busy & long day cleaning, washing & ironing. I baked 6 apple pies and we had Joann & the children here for dinner. Pauls were here in the evening. Dad went to a sale in the P.M. Gene went to confession in the P.M. Dad & I & Pat in the evening.
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 1950- All of us went to 7:30 Mass but Pat, she went to 9:00 with Eds. We were all invited to Bens for dinner also Carl, Louise & Charles and Paul & family. We had a very good dinner and a nice time. In the P.M. Paul & Maurice & Ben went fishing and Leonard went to Kalona to see Gordon. Gene went home & studied. Dad & Carl looked at a farm in the eve. Gerald & Pauline here for supper and Pauls & Bens to see television.
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 1950- We went to Mass. Maurice picked 4 buckets of tomatoes for me. I canned 14 qts & then made 10 bottles of catsup by working late. Dad went down to sale yards , bought 17 head white faced heifer calves. Leonard got hurt at about 11:30 A.M. He stepped on a loose board & fell and fractured his left wrist so supposed to have his wrist & hand in cast for 6 weeks. Hubert called in said that Uncle Henry died at 6:30 P.M. Father Brugman also called.
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 1950- We went to Mass. I worked around cleaning up today after my canning. I also wrote letters to Sister Margaretta, Bro. John & Gert & Nick also cards to Wilma & Mary. Dad & Maurice were working all day over at the Eisenhofer fixing up for the new calves. Dad and I & Maurice went to Aunt Anna's this evening and spent the evening with the family. Pat ironed some tonight.
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 1950- We went to Mass. Then I worked around cleaning up and had fairly early dinner as I wanted to go down town for Alter & Rosary Society's Rosaries at 12:45 and 3:00 P.M. I made a little trip down town of about an hour between Rosaries. We got Pat after school. She finished the ironing this eve. Dad & I & Maurice & Leonard went to Brugmans for the Rosary.
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 1950- We went to the Funeral today. All of us from here so didn't think we had time to go to Mass first. Ed, Mary, Louise went too so they brought Moe, Len, Pat & Gene back after being to the Cemetery and Dad & I went back to the house for dinner & stayed until 3:00 P.M. A very nice day. After we got home I did the weeks washing & hung them all out by electric light for Uncle Henry.
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 1950- We went to Mass. Then I wrote to Bro. John and a card to Aunt Anna. After dinner Joann & boys came over. She & I worked at the Sauerkraut, hard & long. Pat helped after she came home so had the 15 gal jar just about full. Pauls brought the boys over to go to Catechism tomorrow. Bens here for supper.
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 1950- We went to Mass. Then Dad and I hurried back, took the little boys for Catechism and then we took 4 Sisters to Cedar Rapids for a picnic at Ellis Island Park. Then we went on to Walker for dinner with Gert & Nick. His folks were there also. We had a nice time. Got back to Ia City safely then shopped for our groceries. Was after 6 when we got home. I worked all eve.
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 1950- Dad & I, Moe & Len went to 7:30 Mass. Pat & Gene at 9:00 for Sodality Sunday. Pat played. Then Dad & I went over to West Liberty for the Dedication of the new St. Joseph's Church there. It was all very nice - stayed there for lunch - came home then & got ready to go to Clinton for the Holy Name Rally. Got there at 4:30 and ate our picnic lunch - then got in the Stadium at 5:40. It was very lovely and enjoyed it very much. Got home at 11:30 P.M.
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 1950- We went to Mass. I wrote to Lawrence. Then I hunted up the washing, did the kitchen work up good. Got a good dinner for the men so didn't get started washing very early but it was a warm windy day so clothes dried good. Pauls came this evening and brought us a bu. of peaches. Maurice is going to work at the dam tomorrow so I made his sandwiches tonight.
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 1950- Dad & I, PAT & Gene went to Mass. Maurice went with Ben to work at the dam at 4:00 O Clock this morning. They worked until 5:00 P.M. I made 6-1/2 pt tomato preserves, got good meals and wrote to Bro. John & Aunt Anna today. Pat did some ironing after school. No company tonight. Leonard went to Jerry's. Dad went out to the farm to collect interest, he also paid taxes today. Got three new tires for the Chevy and a big load of coal today.
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 1950- Dad & I, Pat & Gene went to Mass. Pat played the Requiem. Today I worked at peaches and got 7 qt canned and also made tomato jam, about 9 pts and Pat & I both ironed some more. Kenny was sick today. They took him to the Dr. this eve - his temperature was 104 - he didn't know what the trouble was. Rained tonight, quite hard at times. Maurice worked at the dam again today.
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 1950- Dad & I , Pat, Gene & Leonard went to Mass this morning, low Mass today. Kenny better this morning. Maurice went with Ben to work at the dam again today & they got through today. Ed, Mary & Allan were here today for dinner. Mary helped me good ( God bless her ). I was so tired, she helped me finish canning the peaches and washed kitchen windows & wood work for me. Pat went to wedding dance tonight.
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 1950- We all went to Mass and Holy Communion. Maurice, Leonard & Gene went hunting. Dad & I went down town. I got Bro. John's curtains. In the P.M. I wrote to him and fixed up his package & Leonard mailed it for me. The High School had Initiation today. Tonight a dance, Pat went but first she had to practice for 2 weddings. Bens left Bennie here & went to Drive-in. Eds, Pauls & Lyles all here in the evening. Ben & Joann went to town this P.M. Joann got a new red coat.
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 1950- All went to Mass but Gene, he went hunting early & got 2 squirrels, then did the chores. Len took Ronnie & Tommy down for Catechism, then came home & got Pat to take her down to play the 10:00 O'clock wedding, then home again & Dad took her down for the 2:00 O'clock wedding as he went to a sale. They finished digging patotoes & we got around 40 bu. Pat broke her glasses before noon. Late in the P.M. Dad & I & Pat went to Confession and then we went down town & Pat picked out a coat & had it layed away for her.
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 1950- Maurice, Len & Gene went to 6:30 Mass. Dad & I to 7:30. Pat to 9:00 with Eds. Maurice & Ben went hunting in the forenoon. In the P.M. they went hunting again after going to Ed's first & not finding them at home. Joann & kids stayed here & all were here for supper. Louise & Carl came out for eggs. Pop, Pat, Gene & Len went to Shueyville for Rodeo. In the eve, Bens & Pauls were here. Went home early. Ginnie also came over.
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 1950- We all went to Mass, Gene is serving this week, all but Sat. morning. Louise M came out to help on Leonard's car. I got a bucket of grapes and cooked them up for jelly & butter, was pretty tired all day. Louise stayed for dinner & supper. Bens came over and told us they were going to Mo. for a few days. I sent card to Gertrude. Birthday card to Mary.
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 1950- We all went to Mass. Bens left early this morn for Kansas City to visit for a few days. Louise M came out again today to help work on the chairs & was here for dinner and supper. I did a big washing and also made up the grape jelly & jam. Very very tired. Louise stayed a while in the eve.
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 1950- We all went to Mass. I worked very hard to get the work done & cleaned up the kitchen & stove getting ready for Aunt Minnie to come tomorrow & also for Betty Klein who was coming to stay overnight. Today, Maurice & the Seniors went to Trappest Monastery, to Dubuque & Dickeyville & got home around 8:00 P.M.. Dad & I went to Aunt Anna's & got Aunt Minnie in Maurice's car and took her to Aunt Frances. Wellman here today.
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 1950- Today we all went to Mass and then I worked as hard as I could getting the house cleaned up and bedroom fixed up for Aunt Minnie. Leonard & I went after her. She didn't feel like going to the Novena so Aunt Frances went with us. In the eve Eds, Lyles, Pauls, Wilma, Clarence, Tony, Gerald & Pauline were all here to see her. We had refreshments. Wellman here today.
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 1950- We all went to Mass but Aunt Minnie, then she was up when we got home. Louise came out this A.M. so she had a nice visit too. The wellman back again today. They also started to haul the gravel on Bern's road. The first load broke the bridge down so the men had to start building it over. Dad raked the hay. Dad & I took Minnie to catch the train at 5:50. Pauls came in the eve to bring the boys.
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 1950- All went to Mass but Gene & the
little boys. Pat played for a wedding this morn. I worked hard baking, cooking,
ironing etc. Net Work Television came on today so we saw Notre Dame beat North
Carolina 14 to 7 this P.M. Jerry Cunnigham was out to see it. Pauline & Gerald
came for a little bit. Gert & Nick came for all night. They went to Confession
in the eve. Pat went down town to go to a show with Betty Klein.
