April - June

July

MONDAY, JULY 1, 1935 - Ed - Eliz & Bernard went to Anna's & picked strawberries , Wilma made preserves of them, we also had a shortcake. Paul, Laurence, Papa & I went to city.

TUESDAY, JULY 2, 1935 - Cleaned & papered closet. Washed blankets & heavy clothes. Girls & Ed went with Frantz's to city in evening.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 3, 1935 - Worked in garden. Washed- went to City in morning with Papa, Maurice and Bernard & to Muscatine in the eve to get Louise.

THURSDAY, JULY 4, 1935 - Louise was home. Had good dinner &ice cream in p.m. rained in the forenoon. Papa, Ed, Louise, Wilma, Eliz went to celebration in city.

FRIDAY, JULY 5, 1935 - Ed took Louise home, First Friday. All went to Mass. Ed & Paul stayed home with little folks, Grandma & Junior came, Dexter's Bessie & Phineas came along here for supper.

SATURDAY, JULY 6, 1935 - Mother & I went to City in A.M. with Papa & Ed- Paul started cultivating I the forenoon, Ed started in the P.M. We took Mother to Dr. in W.L. in evening.

SUNDAY, JULY 7, 1935 - All went to mass. Nancy S. here in P.M. also Ed & Anna S. from W.L. and Ray B here for supper Brugman's here in evening.


MONDAY, JULY 8, 1935 - Papa, Mother & I went to City in morning. Called on Millers & Whites, shopped, took Mother & Junior S. to W.L. and had supper at Dexter's, Ed, Paul & Maurice plowing corn.

TUESDAY, JULY 9, 1935 - Wilma ironed and I worked in garden about all day. Boys plowed - good weather. rec'd Louise letter Girls went to ball game.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 10, 1935 - Wilma helped all day in the garden & I helped too. Then we set out celery & cabbage plants in evening. ?

THURSDAY, JULY 11, 1935 - girls went to ball game in eve. Wilma varnished front room, Papa & I went to City in forenoon- Ed cultivated for Frantz's.

FRIDAY, JULY 12, 1935 - went to City with Ed- finished Wilma's dress- boys cultivated corn.

SATURDAY, JULY 13, 1935 - went to City with Papa got a pair of new shoes. Boys have all the corn crossed and on field laid by.

SUNDAY, JULY 14, 1935 - Went to both masses Papa stayed home at first.


MONDAY, JULY 15, 1935 - washed. Ed plowed corn for Frantz's Paul started to mow hay.

TUESDAY, JULY 16, 1935 - Ironed - I didn't feel good , rec'd Louise letter Ed plowed for soy beans Girls went to Kimbel's in eve.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 17, 1935 - Sent letter to Louise - Ed plowed, Papa sowed soy beans - Boys put in hay - Wilma varnished

THURSDAY, JULY 18, 1935 - Put up hay- Papa disked in soy beans went to see Dr. in eve but he wasn't in Ed & girls went to Ball game.

FRIDAY, JULY 19, 1935 - Sowed more beans disked them in went to Dr. in A.M. Ed plowed corn- Paul mowed & broke mower - rained in eve.

SATURDAY, JULY 20, 1935 - My birthday. rec'd cards from father & Wieskamp's, not feeling well - Ed plowed in a.m., corn in p.m. Planted turnips. Papa worked on joinder. Ed & girls went after Louise.

SUNDAY, JULY 21, 1935 - Louise home - brought presents & birthday cake. I went to last Mass, was weak. Bessie, Clifford - mother- Veatress & Harold called in p.m. Made ice cream in evening. It rained.


MONDAY, JULY 22, 1935 - Took Louise home. Ed went to see Stephens combine. Papa & Paul started to cut oats (cleaned cellar).

TUESDAY, JULY 23, 1935 - Cleaned my room - got ready to paint - varnished hall - went to ball game at Hills.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 24, 1935 - Wilma washed - Papa & I took cream to town and Ed went to Uncle Henry's & stayed the rest of the day. Smiths here in the evening.

THURSDAY, JULY 25, 1935 - Hard rain about noon- had to stop cutting oats - went to Washington to ball game in the evening.

FRIDAY, JULY 26, 1935 - Cut oats - went to ball game at Bayerstown. Canned 6 qts beans, 1 qts. carrots & peas.

SATURDAY, JULY 27, 1935 - Usual Saturdays work. men cut oats all day.

SUNDAY, JULY 28, 1935 - Papa, Paul & I went to W. Liberty church picnic. Frantzs young folks here in the p.m. Young Frantz's & our young folks went to picnic in eve.

MONDAY, JULY 29, 1935 - Papa milked 8 cows, first since hurt. Boys started threshing in p.m. Worked in tomato & cabbage patch, pulled weeds,

TUESDAY, JULY 30, 1935 - Worked in garden pulled weeds & hoed - pulled onions - cut oats & timothy

WEDNESDAY, JULY 31, 1935 - Washed - Bessie brought mother & Donna over for a visit & was here or dinner - Boys threshed, finished cutting oats.


August

THURSDAY, AUGUST 1, 1935 - Hoes & sewed - mother here - took drive in evening - Ed & girls went to ball game in eve.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 2, 1935 - Papa & I took Mother & Donna to City with us- Took Radio in to get fixed, took Mother & Donna to W. Liberty in PM.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 3, 1935 - Papa & I took the cream in and did some shopping Boys went threshing Usual Saturdays work

SUNDAY, AUGUST 4, 1935 - Went to both masses - Girls went to Smiths in PM stayed for supper and went to ball game - Papa went to Edle's in PM Schooley's there in PM.

MONDAY, AUGUST 5, 1935 - I started my dresses- Washed - boys went threshing- Papa & I went to town with cream- Went to Mr. Edle's funeral.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 6, 1935 - Ironed- Boys went threshing- churned- I sewed all my dresses- letter from Louise, Ed & Lyle went to Bessie's in evening.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 7, 1935 - Ed's first airplane ride. Papa & I went to city. Eliz washed jars, getting ready to can peaches, Wilma cleaned upstairs. I sewed - mother, Harold, Veatress called in evening.


THURSDAY, AUGUST 8, 1935 - Papa & I took cream up and got 2 bu. peaches, pretty green. Canned 20 qt. peaches. Ed & girls went to ball game at Hills.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 9, 1935 - Finished threshing on this run all but ours - big rain in evening - we partly ready for threshers - canned 2 qts peach jam.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 10, 1935 - Papa & I went to city in a.m. Sewed in p.m. got ready for Hipple reunion. Weather warm after rain - Ed went to Nichols & worked on his car. ray B. came home with him & here for supper.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 11, 1935 - Went to first Mass. went to Hipple reunion in Muscatine - Had a bad blow out of tire on way down. Louise came out & Papa & the 3 girls & Mary Fr & Gertrude went to Nichols to social the boys left for N. Dakota.

MONDAY, AUGUST 12, 1935 - Had threshers after dinner, 1 for dinner. Had them for supper. Mary Frantz helped & she and Eldon stayed for the evening - Dexter's brought Embrees out & Papa & I & baby took them home stayed all night.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 13, 1935 - Ed & boys arrived in N.D. We got home from Ottumwa about 9:30 had dinner for threshers at 11:30, canned 23 qt. peaches in p.m. Girls went with Frantz's to ball game in Hills in evening.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 14, 1935 - Washed canned 30 qt apples, 10 q.t dill pickles, 11 qt sliced pickles, 1 qt. peach jam. Got a letter from Sister Margaretta.


THURSDAY, AUGUST 15, 1935 - Holy Day. All went to Mass. Papa & I & Wilma went to city with cream. W. put in application for work at hospital. Went to Ann's in p.m. they were gone, Verna & Alphonse here in eve. Girls went to ball game with Frantz.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 16, 1935 - Ironed, canned 16 qt. tomatoes our first, 10 qt. dill pickles, went to Ann's in evening had a good visit had fish for dinner & supper

SATURDAY, AUGUST 17, 1935 - Papa took in cream - boys hoed cabbage & celery, canned 6 qts. sweet cucumbers, 6 bread & butter pickles, 4 qt. pickled cucumbers. Papa & I & baby went to Muscatine after Louise.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 18, 1935 - Wilma & I stayed home from early Mass. We took all our pictures. Had a nice day with Louise. Papa took the girls & the Smith girls to Wilton to picnic in evening. Wilma went to Roach's.

MONDAY, AUGUST 19, 1935 - Papa took cream in. We canned 2 pt. sliced cucumbers. Eliz swept upstairs, we got some ready for fair. rained about 6 in the morning.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 20, 1935 - Rained very hard in early morning, so we didn't go to the fair, canned 8 qt tomatoes, baked bread & gems, churned and got ready to wash.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 21, 1935 - Elizabeth washed & canned 8 qts. pickles besides taking care of the children. Papa and I - Paul, Maurice, Bernard & Laurence went to the fair. Had a nice time.


THURSDAY, AUGUST 22, 1935=Eliz ironed, canned 4 qt dill pickles. Papa took cream to city - Rec'd letter from Ed. Papa, Paul & Eliz went to ball game in evening. Cool weather.

FRIDAY, 23, 1935 - Papa & Paul cut weeds, canned 4 qt sliced, 2 qt chunk & 6 qt pickles, 12 qt peaches, 2 qt tomatoes. Boys cleaned brooder house. Sent letter to Ed - card to Ann- Loeb here. Read card from Louise, from Wilma.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 24, 1935 - Sat work. Eliz ironed some extra clothes. she washed on Friday. Papa took cream in $10.25 this week $1.05 for eggs. Very nice day.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 25, 1935 - All went to Mass as usual - Papa , Paul, Eliz, Laurence & I to first others to last. Mother & Dexter's here for dinner & supper. Eliz went with Smiths to Lone Tree to social in evening.

MONDAY, AUGUST 26, 1935 - Eliz canned peaches, Papa, Laurence, baby & I went to Schooley's for dinner & supper. as Papa went to sale. Bought to Hampshire sows caught in rain coming home, stopped by Scotts Bluff Church, while it rained hardest. Didn't rain at home.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 27, 1935 - Papa & Paul went after sows, also bought Holstein calf of Harold McGown. Papa mowed clover in p.m. We canned 4 qt. applesauce made 2 glasses crab apple jelly.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 28, 1935 - Elizabeth ironed - Papa went to city- sold $1.00 pickles to Mrs. Schneider.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 29, 1935 - Canned 8 qt bread & butter pickles, 5 qt peaches, 2 qt tomatoes. Had chicken for dinner. Damp, chilly and rainy toward evening.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 30, 1935 - Help clean school house in a.m. Papa worked on hog house. Eliz straightened up house & canned 8 qt. dill pickles. Eliz went with Frantz to ball game at Kalona (cold temperature 46 degrees)

SATURDAY, AUGUST 31, 1935 - Sat work getting ready for company canned 14 qt pickles, got radio home. sent letters to Sister Margaretta & Louise - Wilma came home - Bud brought her out.


September

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 1, 1935 - Had company. My postponed birthday dinner - 12 guests - very rainy day & cold - all seemed to have a good time. Harold took Wilma home.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 1935 - Labor Day - and still rainy - Went to Ann's in p.m. - took pickles and brought back apples.

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 1935 - Papa and I went to city with cream, got letter from Ed. Sent him a card. canned 16 qt. corn. Eliz went with Frantz's to see circus load up in evening.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 1935 - Canned 3 qt carrots, 2 qt beans, we canned 2 qt corn & 36 qt apples. Eliz. washed, went with Frantz's to ball game - Papa, Paul & Maurice went, too.

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 1935 - Temperature 33 this morning, canned 38 qt apples - men helped put up hay. I helped clean up school in p.m. Called on Tillie. Eliz went with Frantzs to Hills.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 1935 - Temperature 36 this morning, canned 4 qt. plums. Ironed, cleaned up house. Papa, Eliz., Paul, Bernard, Lawrence went to Bayertown to ball game. Men put up hay. Loeb here.

SATURDAY, 7, 1935 - Eliz went with Frantz's to Conesville for Melon day. Papa and I went to City got school things. Canned 2 qt. dill and 4 qt. bread &butter pickles.


SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER8, 1935 - Rainy SUNDAY - all went to Mass. Eliz, Paul & John to last Mass - Folks went up to see air circus from outside - Huey Long shot.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER9, 1935 - 2 letters & card from Ed. First day of school. Ed & Wilma brought Louise out, brought my set of dishes home. Ed, Louise, Wilma, Eliz went to Wilton in the evening.

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER10, 1935 - Canned 22 qt apples and 6 pt dill pickles. Papa went in with cream, dressed chickens for Church supper. Papa & Eliz went to Shanks dance in City - she came home with Frantz - rec'd card from Ed & letter from girls.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER11, 1935 - Papa & I & baby went to Moline with tractor block and got it fixed, left home about 6 in morning.

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 1935 - Papa and I went to town - Paul sick.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 1935 - Men put up hay. Went to ball game at Bayertown in evening.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER14, 1935 - Papa & I went to town Maurice went along and got some of the children's things. Elizabeth & Papa went to Muscatine for the girls.


SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 1935 - Smith Reunion at Uncle Dode's, very nice time - Paul was sick - Elizabeth, Wilma & Louise went to party at Brugman's.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER16, 1935 - Took Louise home - Stopped at Veatress, Paul better, got up at noon - Rained- canned apple butter.

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER17, 1935 - Went to Quilting in Hills Eliz washed. Mother, Bessie, Harold & Veatress here for supper - Eliz went home with them.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER18, 1935 - Canned 16 qt tomatoes. Went to visit Rose Gladall at Hospital in evening.

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 1935 - Canned 16 qt. corn. Wilma went to Weanie roast in evening at Muscatine with Bud.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 1935 - Canned 4 qt. pickles baked bread & 2 cakes. Wilma ironed visited Rose in evening.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 1935 - Harold, Veatress, Bessie & Elizabeth started for Minnesota. Took Wilma to the Dr. in the pm. Wilma & I visited Roe at Hospital. Also saw Mr Cress.


SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 1935 - Blessed Sacrament exposed all day took the children from 2 to 3 PM. Went to Hospital visited Rose & Mr. Cress, went to Holy Hour in evening. Maurice stayed home.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 1935 - Papa & I went to Mass and went to Ann's in PM saw Minnie & John for first time. Got grapes and apples - wet to Holy Hour in eve. Paul & John stayed home.

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 1935 - Leonard 4 yrs. old. Canned 30 qt. tomatoes. Washed shirts & ironed, baked bread. Went to Holy Hour in evening. Johnny sick.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 1935 - Lyle here for dinner, put up 8 loads of hay. Canned 13 1/2 qts. grapes. Went to Holy Hour in the evening.

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 1935 - Clifford broke his leg - Papa & Paul got corn at Cliffords. We canned 7 1/2 qt spiced apples. 21 qt. tomatoes. Went to Holy Hour in evening.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 1935 - Cold this morning 34.We washed and canned 16 qt. corn. Papa & I went to visit Clifford at Mercy Hospital in eve. Took Till Brugman up to University Hospital to visit James.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 1935 - First frost - temp 26. Saturdays work, some ironing, 7 qt corn, 4 1/2 qt mustard pickles. Eliz came home. The boys returned from the north.

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 1935 - Most of us went to Mass in Hills. Eliz & Maurice to Ia. City. Boys in Ia. City. Papa went to shave Clifford. Milder reunion at Ann's, nice day. Ed brought Louise out from Muscatine.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 1935 - Papa & I went to City in AM. Saw Clifford coming out from ether after having his leg set. Minnie & John came in PM. Nice day. Papa, Ed & John went to City also to see Clifford.
