TUESDAY, JANUARY 1, 1935 - Papa & I , 4 school children went to first mass. Ed, Paul & girls to second mass - dinner around 5 p.m. Ice cream in the evening - very cold in the morning.
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 2, 1935 - Washed - Papa & Louise went to hills in P.M. - The boys started to husk corn again - Thawed pretty good but plenty snow - Letter from Mrs. priestly Wodohodsky(?)
THURSDAY, JANUARY 3, 1935 - Boys husked corn - Papa went to town with cream - Wilma ironed John stayed home, as he was sick again. Flater here to count hogs.
FRIDAY, JANUARY 4, 1935 - John broke out with measles. All others went to school. Papa went to sale. Louise and Wilma went to Muscatine to work at Mrs. Huertley's brought home my new hat.
SATURDAY, JANUARY 5, 1935 - Paul husked corn all day. Ed 1/2 day & then went to Davenport in P.M. Nice day snow melted. Ground corn meal and grain for mash.
SUNDAY, JANUARY 6, 1935 - Our best cow was found dead. Wilma, Bernard & Gerald stayed home with John. and little folks. All the rest of us went in one car, visited grandpa a little while. All stayed home the rest of the day, roads pretty good.
MONDAY, JANUARY 7, 1935 - Wilma washed - Louise painted woodwork in dining room & little rooms. the men butchered a hog. Leo came over for cow. Started to rain in the evening.
TUESDAY, JANUARY 8, 1935 - Warm weather 7 very muddy - called up folks in West Liberty - my father better and going back to work. Worked with meat, baked bread - sewed some.
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 9, 1935 - Muddy and still warm weather, Papa and Paul hauled feed. Wilma canned sauerkraut. Louise cut up pumpkin to can tomorrow. John got up
THURSDAY, JANUARY 10, 1935 - Canned pumpkin, Papa went to West Liberty, still warm weather. snowed a little but melted away again. Patty Ann and Leonard coming down with measles. Mixed chicken mash.
FRIDAY, JANUARY 11, 1935 - Measles sign put up. Papa and Louise went to Muscatine. Boys husked corn, we canned 22 quarts of pumpkin. Papa and Louise left car at Reuben's & walked home. Took chickens to Muscatine 12 for $6.89
SATURDAY, JANUARY 12, 1935 - Rained and bad day - Patricia broke out with measles, Gerald and Leonard sick and coming down with measles.
SUNDAY, JANUARY 13, 1935 - Froze up and folks watched the thermometer come down so it got froze up enough for pretty good driving. Louise and I stayed home with the children & sick patients.
MONDAY, JANUARY 14, 1935 - Finished husking corn. Papa went to west Liberty with cream. We got potatoes and money from Page $18.64 also lease from Hills, Boys pretty sick.
TUESDAY, JANUARY 15, 1935 - Washed clothes, Loeb was here and sold his corn to Kauffman, children getting better. Patricia took lots of care. Bud here in evening.
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 16, 1935 - Very rainy day, and freezing. Girls canned 24 qts carrots. Papa & Ed started to put corn in tester, rec'd my new kettles from M.M.&Co. drying clothes in the house.
THURSDAY, JANUARY 17, 1935 - Very icy, Ed & Louise went to Muscatine, Ed went on to davenport, got a job to work for this year. they stayed at Brugman's for supper and spent the evening. Wilma ironed. Papa finished putting corn in the tester.
FRIDAY, JANUARY 18, 1935 - 12 eggs the girls cleaned up the house. Men cut and sawed a little wood, looking for a cold wave. Very icy yet the children walked to school Gerald and Leonard got up.
SATURDAY, JANUARY 19, 1935 - Papa & Ed took the children up to confession took potatoes, cream and milk up for church supper. Papa & 3 girls went up for supper - rained in early morning roads not so bad.
SUNDAY, JANUARY 20, 1935 - Papa, the children, Louise & Wilma went to first mass. Ed, Eliz, Johnnie, & I went to second mass, called on mother. Ed, Paul, Louise & Wilma went to Brugman's in P.M. turned cold a& started to snow. Children's Communion
MONDAY, JANUARY 21, 1935 - 18 eggs. Ed's birthday 24 years and 13 below zero, children stayed home from school the first for 1 1/2 yrs. Papa & boys took seed corn out of tester good test. I done some mending Girls got birthday supper Louise (?)
TUESDAY, JANUARY 22, 1935 - Rec'd Jan hog payment. Folks went to Muscatine, Papa took 11 hogs down rec'd $7.86 per 100 weight & check for $219.80 for same. Louise & Wilma cleaned house at Huertley's. Elizabeth baked bread cooked beefs. 2 below sent first half of rent.
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 23, 1935 - 10 below zero. Johnnie stayed home from school. canned 30 qt. beets - 24 qts carrots. Men went to timber for a little while in P.M. I made Patricia Ann 3 pr. bloomers. 11 below at bedtime.
THURSDAY, JANUARY 24, 1935 - Men got up some wood and sawed wood. The girls washed on the board, canned 8 qts carrots and churned. Got letter from the man at Hills, 10 below this morning.
FRIDAY, JANUARY 25, 1935 - Papa and Ed went to West Liberty as it was tractor day. Girls ironed some and dried clothes.
SATURDAY, JAN.26, 1935 - Ed took the children up from Bible class. Butchered calf in p.m. Girls and Ed went to dance in west Liberty in evening.
SUNDAY, JANUARY 27, 1935 - Paul & Maurice got 11 rabbits. All went to Mass in two trips. Papa, Wilma & I at first with children. Ed, Louise & Eliz to second & brought home sister & Walter here in p.m.
MONDAY, JANUARY 28, 1935 - All children back in school. Wilma & Eliz washed. Louise & I with 3 little ones visited at mothers. Ed & Papa went to sale. Ed rec'd letter from Eldridge, Ia. Louise from Mrs. H. Veatress & Harold at mothers.
TUESDAY, JANUARY 29, 1935 - Papa, Ed & Louise went to Muscatine. Louise did some work. We got ready for company. Harold, Veatress, mother, Reuben & Myrtle our guests for supper.
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 30, 1935 - Ironed, baked bread, cold packed 20 qts beef, made 41 lbs. into dried beef. Ed left for his new job near Eldridge, Iowa. Eliz, Paul & Maurice went to Whites in evening.
THURSDAY, JANUARY 31, 1935 - Papa, Wilma & Louise went to Muscatine,the girls to work. Eliz worked at beef head and other work. Paul churned & helped us. baby and I had bad cold. Girls & Papa to dance at west Liberty in eve, won prize. Read letter from Aunt (Minnie ?)
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 1935 - Girls and I put seed corn in tester. Papa & Paul hauled feed and fixed grate in stove, put muslim on brooder house. Fixed brine for corn beef.
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 2, 1935 - Ground hog saw its shadow. Papa took children into Bible class. Warm day, thawed quite a lot. Wilma went to w. Liberty to the dance with Whites. Stayed all night at mothers.
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 1935 - Eliz Maurice & Johnnie stayed home, all the rest of us went for one trip roads some muddy coming home, quiet day, Whites boys here in the evening. Radio and card playing.
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 1935 - Papa went to sale, bought 2 commodes Girls washed and I did some sewing. Papa took 10 bushels potatoes to town for Vance Deal. payed for grinder
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 1935 - 22 eggs. Sent letter to Sister Margaretta Wilma ironed and Papa & Louise Kalsomined boys room and Louise finished cleaning it. Papa and Paul butchered 2 hogs. Got letter from Ed.
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 1035- Got letter from Velva , worked at meat, took corn out of tester, Papa and I went to W. Liberty went to Dr, stayed with Mother for supper, Papa went to corn- hog meeting.
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 1935 - Papa & Louise went to Muscatine; Girls made head cheese, fried down sausage, we salted down the meat sold 13 roosters for $10.50.
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 1935 - 33 eggs. Louise and I served. I didn't feel very good in forenoon. started on a dress for Gertrude. Papa shelled seed corn. John Foley was here to inspect sealed corn.
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 1935 - Papa took to the children to Bible Class, Reuben went along to W.L. Papa & Reuben went to Muscatine in the P.M. Fred Kaufman was here to tell us he bought the farm, Papa and girls went to dance.
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 1935 - All went to Mass. Eliz & Louise to second road s fair folks here to look at house that could work for Kaufman. Barklow here to get a piece of old Ford truck & traded us 2 gal molasses for it Louis Milder here in evening
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 1935 - washed- Louise had call from Mrs. Hakes telling of Mrs. Giffiths death. Reuben and White's and Ester here in the evening
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 1935 - Fred Kaufman here in forenoon and bought feed and corn new @,85 old @ .95. Papa took the girls to Muscatine in the afternoon, Eliz and Paul went to Schmidt in evening
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 1935 - Call from Bud in morning, from Wilma in evening. Eliz and I ironed I made soap. Bad weather rainy and sleet Papa worked on truck
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 14, 1935 - Papa went to Muscatine, took corn and hens in hens brought $9.66 brought Wilma home- very bad day rain and muddy Paul had to take team to help them up the hill
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 15, 1935 - Rainy day and very muddy. Papa went after Louise in P.M. and left car at Reuben's; Paul went after them with wagon and team.
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 16, 1935 - Papa didn't take children into Confession on account of roads. But took the girls to the dance in the evening. Papa & boys got up wood & sawed and finished babies dress.
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 17, 1935 - I, Gerald & John stayed home from Mass. Mrs. Propet & E. Nauman came for Potatoes in the P.M. Papa, Louise, Wilma & Maurice went to hills to farm & to visit Sisters. baby & I went to Mothers.
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 1935 - Washed, Star was, sick all day - I sewed - Papa painted front of truck.
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 1935 - Star better. Wilma ironed, Louise and I sewed. Reuben got sweet corn fodder and other things. Then Papa and Reuben went to West Liberty.
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 1935 - Papa & Louise went to Muscatine. Got new car - Louise lost her overshoe. I sewed- went to Whites in the evening. Sent Mary letter & Ed letter.
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 1935 - Papa fixed starter on the car. Paul fixed horn on the truck, Baled hay in the afternoon. Reuben & Myrtle walked over - Louise cut Myrtle's hair, sent order & letter to Aunt Minnie.
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 1935 - Eliz went with Whites to party. Sewed, Papa & Paul sacked up potatoes, Louise fixed socks. Wilma washed curtains. Walter took first load of hay to farm. Papa, Louise & Wilma went to Harold's dance at Bessie.
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 1935 - Sent Paul's contest letter. Also to Ma Perkins contest Orphan Annie tooth paste name. Baled hay, had men for dinner. Broke baler after noon. Elizabeth went over to Whites go with them to dance but they didn't go.
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 1935 - Wilma & Gertrude stayed home - able to get through roads but about got stuck in our own lot. started to snow late in the afternoon - turned colder.
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 25.1935 - 10 above zero this morning. Papa & Louise went to W. Liberty. Reuben here in P.M. Papa bought hogs of Wolf. Girls packed some-
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 1935 - Louise got her overshoe back. Papa took hogs to Muscatine, rec'd $80.05 broke down with the truck. Louise & Eliz went after him. We baled hay - Papa and Paul went to Wolf's for hogs. Wilma washed.
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 1935 - Papa went to sale at Hills with Walter as he hauled a load of hay. Wilma & Louise went to Muscatine to work & took car in am out of gas I was pushed for a few miles. it below zero, roads pretty fair.
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 1935 - Wilma ironed I sewed. Papa got truck home. Walter hauled 2 loads of hay. Papa, Reuben & Paul sawed Reuben's wood in the P.M. Louise took Papa to Atalissa & had to put on a chain to get up the hill.
FRIDAY, MARCH 1, 1935 - Eggs 2.06. Papa & I went to Muscatine - Made out our order at M.W.&Co. very muddy left car at corner walked home then they pulled the car home with the horses.
SATURDAY, MARCH 2, 1935 - Fred Kaufman here in the morning. Papa went to Hills We decided to move even if Eggenburgs were not out. Papa & Walter went to Muscatine & got new stove & new wash machine.
SUNDAY, MARCH 3, 1935 - Louise, Wilma, Bernard, Lawrence, John, Gertrude & I went in wagon to Reuben's & then to Mass in car. The men loaded cattle and hogs in trucks the Papa, Leo & Maurice went to last Mass. Papa & Walter hauled potatoes, stove, w machine in P.M. I, Gertrude & 3 little ones went to mother's in the evening.
MONDAY, MARCH 4, 1935 - Rainy and didn't get to move, as planned. folks finished packing up. I had a busy day with little folks at Mother's.
TUESDAY, MARCH 5, 1935 - Papa & boys moved wagons and horses. Papa was hit by a car and injured. At about 7:15 o'clock in evening, taken to mercy hospital.
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 6, 1935 - Ash Wed. I & Leonard went to Mass. Wilma came in & told me about Papa . Louise, Wilma, Walter W. & I went to visit Papa in forenoon. Harold took me up in the evening.
THURSDAY, MARCH 7, 1935 - Folks got moved. Clifford took me to Iowa City to see Papa . Clifford shaved Papa . Bessie stayed in to help with the children - I was very tired and blue in the evening.
FRIDAY, MARCH 8, 1935 - I packed up things to leave mother's. Bessie & Veatress kept Leonard & Gertrude up there. Harold & Veatress took me & the little ones to hospital & then home.
SATURDAY, MARCH 9, 1935 - Straightened up some and Louise & I went to the hospital and then did some shopping in the afternoon. Rainy weather. Papa doing as well as could be expected.
SUNDAY, MARCH 10, 1935 - All went to Mass. Maurice & Gertrude stayed home with little ones. Henry & Aunt Dorothy & Hubert here in p.m. & took me to hospital. Harold & Veatress here for supper & we all went back to hospital in evening.
MONDAY, MARCH 11, 1935 - Louise & Paul went to 8 o'clock Mass & took the school children for their first day of school at St. Joseph's school in Hills, Iowa. Louise & I went to hospital to visit Papa in evening. first washing with electric washing machine.
TUESDAY, MARCH 12, 1935 - Worked straightening up house some more. Wilma hung out clothes to dry. We took Gerald & Johnnie with us to hospital.
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 13, 1935 - Folks went to devotions in am. Louise & I went to city with cream & eggs. Visited Papa before noon & after noon - Ed & John Minehart were also down to see Papa.
THURSDAY, MARCH 14, 1935 - Louise & I visited Papa in evening. Cleaned up house some more.
FRIDAY, MARCH 15, 1935 - Louise & Paul went to Uncle Henry's & West Liberty in forenoon. Louise & I went to devotions in p.m.- and then we took Bernard & Lawrence with us to see Papa .
SATURDAY, MARCH 16, 1935 - Went in p.m. to hospital - Wilma, Louise & I. Bernard W. & Stephen B came over & they & Paul went to the other place & brought back truck of things & king went to confession in evening.
SUNDAY, MARCH 17, 1935 - Went to 9:30 Mass. Paul & Gerald kept the little folks. Louise, Eliz & I took 2 sisters to see Papa . I stayed. H.A.D brought me home. took radio in evening.
MONDAY, MARCH 18, 1935 - Went to Muscatine took Louise back. Had a big day. Stopped I W Liberty and then in Ia. City for the evening with Papa.
TUESDAY, MARCH 19, 1935 - Washed. Ed & Stephen worked around fixing up things - I went to Mass with the children - Ed, Stephen & I went to the hospital in evening.
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 20, 1935 - Girls ironed. Boys butchered 2 hogs. Then Ed, Stephen & I & Wilma went to Ia. City in p.m. picked out wallpaper got new tires for car. Went to hospital & folks went to church in eve.
THURSDAY, MARCH 21, 1935 - Work with the meat all day. Stephen helped us and Ed put glass in door. Boys got wood in p.m. then we went to hospital in evening.
FRIDAY, MARCH 22, 1935 - Girls finished up most of the butchering. Boys hauled cultivator & gang-plow from Roberts. Then we went to Atalissa to pay up our bills in p.m. Stopped at W. Liberty & then in to hospital.
SATURDAY, MARCH 23, 1935 - Louise came home with Brugman's. I patched overalls & girls did up Sat. work, washed blankets & overalls. Boys went over to other place got a load of oats & tractor ready to bring home. Went to hospital in the evening.
SUNDAY, MARCH 24, 1935 - I stayed home from early Mass & then Louise & I went to Ia. City to Mass & visit Papa a little while. Wilma, Louise & I went in p.m. Mother, Bessie, V & H came out here & stayed for supper. Eleanor also here, they all started home in the rain.
MONDAY, MARCH 25, 1935 - Boys got fanning mill and fanned our oats for seeding. Girls papered Ed's room. Ed, Stephen & I went to hospital in evening.
TUESDAY, MARCH 26, 1935 - Boys got up wood & girls papered a room downstairs then Ed , Bernard & I went to hospital in the evening, Ed ordered tractor lugs.
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 27, 1935 - Girls washed. The boys went to the other place to get tractor. Ed got stuck on way home. Harold & Veatress brought him home - Stephen, Paul & I went to hospital.
THURSDAY, MARCH 28, 1935 - The boys butchered the beef in the forenoon. Girls ironed. Stephen, Ed & I went to hospital in eve - Hubert B & Louis M came in evening.
FRIDAY, MARCH 29, 1935 - We worked hard at the meat & cold packed 52 qts. beef. Ed & Stephen took farming mill home. And Ed brought tractor home. Stephen, Wilma & Paul went to devotions. Stephen, Wilma Gertrude & I went to hospital at night.
SATURDAY, MARCH 30, 1935 - finished the meat. (boys hauled a load of sawed wood in p.m.) cold packed 44 qts beef, made 16 qts mincemeat, 60 lbs.dried beef/ 33 lbs corn beef. Eliz, Stephen, Ed & I went to see Papa in eve. Eliz & Gertrude new shoes.
SUNDAY, MARCH 31, 1935 - All went to 9:30 mass but Wilma. In afternoon I went to the hospital & stayed all p.m. with him, Stephen, Ed & Wilma went to Davenport to get Ed's radio & other things.
